Making Hybrid Clouds a Reality

In a few fast-paced years of the evolving landscape of Cloud computing solutions, Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) has become recognized as a game-changing IT offering. It has followed a global cost-cutting outsourcing trend and provides innovative business models previously unavailable for IT infrastructure.
However, the Cloud’s initial success still leaves the door open for how IaaS will continue to mature. Interoperable hybrid solutions are a path that many see coming, where today’s quickly commoditizing IaaS resources would be provided to the user in a variety of scenarios, such as in-house coupled with outsourced combinations, as well as multi-Cloud broker modeling between several providers. Such solutions could strike a careful balance between Cloud’s innovative approach, with the trust, security and lock-in hesitations that businesses are understandably concerned about.
Atos, a worldwide leader in IT services and consultancy, and the 451 Group, a global analyst in enterprise IT, are pairing up to share their thoughts on this future and the trends we’re keeping a close look at. In addition to our commercial work in the Cloud, we’re also involved in two EU-funded initiatives that are working on these hot topics today.
The Optimis project (www.optimis-project.eu), is developing hybrid solutions, where Atos and the 451 Group work together among a consortium of European partners to provide several hybrid Cloud scenarios where trust, risk assessment, eco-efficiency and cost are key parameters to automate such decisions.
The SIENA initiative (www.sienainitiative.eu) works with key stakeholders in the Cloud landscape to facilitate the needed collaboration for these user-driven scenarios to mature: providers, user communities, standards bodies and policy groups.
