According to the World Health Organization (WHO), approximately 1.4 million patients per day are affected by Hospital-Acquired Infections (HAI) throughout the world. HAI is an infection acquired by a patient during hospital care and not present at the time of admission. The hospital or a healthcare unit is the place, where the risk of infection is high.The occurrence of hospital-acquired infections leads to significant rise in healthcare costs, excess length of stay in hospitals and increase in mortality rates.
