Managing an Efficient Virtual Data Centre Environment
Many hypes in IT are just the same old idea, tried again, but with better technology and under a new name. The Data Center is dead, long live the Virtual Data Center? The danger of this is that we treat the Virtual Data center just like a new type of infrastructure and simply rehost our existing applications from physical to virtual machines (P2V), just as we rehosted them from Mainframes to Mini’s in the days of downsizing. But if we only rehost we will miss out big time on the potential benefits of virtualization: which are not just cost and energy reductions, but also business and IT agility, management efficiency, market responsiveness and service improvements. Not to mention that – again just with downsizing (the rumors of the mainframes death were highly exaggerated) - we now see virtualization efforts stall at around the 30% mark. Hear how a virtualization maturity based approach can help overcome these hurdles and allow you to reap the true benefits.
