From the early days of using email to communicate with colleagues and friends, to social networks that harbor countless amounts of personal information about us all, to online banking and commerce being a part of our everyday lives, the World Wide Web has become a preferred standard for how consumers want to transact. Because of this, it becomes increasingly more important to ensure that you are talking to a trusted, legitimate company, and not an imposter trying to take you for the proverbial ride. We are all familiar with the gold padlock showing us that a site is secure, but what does that lock icon really mean?
