A User’s Perspective: Sustainable IT at Intel

Charles Sheridan joined INTEL in 1992 as Automation IT Engineer, in this role he developed IT roadmaps and architectures enhancing Intel's competitive advantage within High Volume Manufacturing sites worldwide. He has published a number of research publications on automation integration systems and has keen research interest in visualisation of complex data sets. Mr. Sheridan’s current position is “European sustainable computing program manager” within Information Technology’s Strategy Architecture & Innovation group (SAI). In this key position Mr. Sheridan is responsible for developing Intel Corporations sustainability roadmap to deliver direct IT Energy reductions & reduce Intel IT’s carbon footprint. He regularly consults with fortune 500 companies on Sustainable IT best practices & works with policy advisory groups at European Commission & national level. He co-chairs industrial consortia working group thru Innovation Value Institute (IVI) focused on sustainable computing with key companies such as Microsoft and SAP. In addition through Intel Labs Europe he participates in research proposals and consortia under European Commission FP7 research program related to Smart Buildings, Smart Grids and Smart MFG energy.
