Are Return to Work Programs Still Relevant?

The stakes have never been higher, everyday we hear disturbing information about layoffs and downsizing – when company’s layoff employees, what happens to employees who are injured on the job or have illness that prevent them from find new employment. What should we do with these individuals? Should we make an effort to keep them employed? Is is easier to start offering injured employees a settlement so they can go away quietly? or should we continue offering light or modified duty positions? From an ergonomic standpoint should we spend the money in this economy to modify a job when our company is in dire financial situation?
