Why & How SSDs are Economical
Although Flash SSDs are notorious for their extremely high price per gigabyte when compared with standard HDDs, these devices are gaining acceptance in applications where they present an economical alternative to the HDD. In this presentation Objective Analysis will examine several HDD applications, including laptop PCs, desktop and static consumer applications as well as enterprise applications, and will present a case for the success or failure of the SSD in each. Mr. Handy will explain the issues that drive design decisions, including the balance between $/GB and $/IOPS, the role of absolute price points, which applications have a maximum usable capacity, and other issues that determine which storage will gain acceptance.
