Minimising the Cost of CMDB Adoption

Configuration Management is a hot topic area for most organisations. But the process is a servant to other processes rather than delivering benefit in its own right, and it is also seen as having a high price tag to implement. Many organisations have either shied away from implementation, or abandoned the project when costs and difficulty became too great. In this session, the causes of cost runaway and how to avoid them will be discussed, tips provided on increasing the likelihood of success of your CMDB implementation project, and examples provided of where things have gone well - and not so well. Speaker Bio... Ian has a long history of working in the IT industry, nearly always as a client-facing person, and having involvement in service management for many years. He has worked in all phases of the service lifecycle with customers of IBM. More recent areas of speciality are service strategy, IT governance, business and IT integration and environmentally sustainable IT. Ian has spoken at a number of conferences on the subject of Configuration Management, most recently at the joint BCS / itSMF Conference on 15th June. He also regularly talks to audiences on the subject of environmentally sustainable IT, which has strong links to the minimisation of cost.
