Making Foreigners Pay their fines
A new international system for cross-border enforcement of criminal fines comes into force in the UK this October. This enables penalties imposed in a UK court to be enforced in other European countries. It also means fines issued against British offenders abroad will be enforced in the UK. This webcast will explain the background to the new criminal legislation; how and where it can be used; what it means for authorities and others involved in fines enforcement; the strengths and weaknesses of the new system; the European context. On the webcast will be Bill Blakemore of the SPARKS Network, Sue Rayner Jacobs and Richard Beston from the UK's Ministry of Justice and Adrianna Miękina from the European Commission's Directorate General for Justice, Liberty & Security.
