From IT Service Provider to Service Broker

Chuck Darst, Manager - ITSM Product Marketing, HP
Today there is a vast array of choices concerning where and how IT services are sourced. This is not entirely new as various forms of outsourcing have been employed for years. But, today’s multi-sourced, hybrid IT world is much more dynamic and the variety of options greater. While most of the dialog associated with Cloud has been working its way from the infrastructure up, IT Service Management has a strong role to play. This presentation will provide recommendations and discuss why good processes are more essential than ever, how self-service portals based on a service catalog provide a critical entry point, why automation has become essential in addressing response time expectations, and why it is important to understand what it truly costs to deliver services in order to make more informed business decisions.

  • BYOD is inevitable and unstoppable. Maybe even uncontrollable and unmanageable. But is it the real issue? We seem to be very interested in mobile device management and security risks and data breaches, as, of course, we should be. But, isn’t the real issue the fact that traditional IT is fast becoming irrelevant. Nearly all of us use our personal devices for work and have multiple personal clouds full of data – personal and business. Today’s users believe that they need traditional IT less than before. Crowdsourcing is replacing the Service Desk while Web self-service is replacing live people. But, there’s more to running IT than mobile device buzz words and doom & gloom blogs and tweets. Check out this webinar with CA Technologies & Pink Elephant to find out what’s really happening and what IT can do to embrace this new world. 1 PriSM CPD.

  • By 2014, 60% of global companies are expected to pilot, deploy or expand their BYOD programs (RainKing). As BYOD has become a fixture in the workplace, with 72% of employees clamoring to have their personal devices work-enabled, the IT industry has watched as the familiar “perimeter" model has become untenable. Data is going to more places, and ending up on a wider variety of devices, than ever before. A new model for protecting data has become a necessity. Organizations have tried to do so in a multitude of ways: extending policies to cover mobile devices, monitoring usage, MDM solutions, and even NAC; all have been methods used to try and create the most stable environment for mobile technology. Let Integralis security expert Mike Gabriel explain how to best balance mobile productivity and security in this Security Talks installment.

    Why Attend?

1.Discover how your peers are trying to protect mobile data.
2.See how the perimeter is being sculpted (or not) by the IT industry.
3.Find out what the future holds for BYOD in the workplace.
  • Over the years true MSPs have had to work diligently to differentiate themselves from companies that are at best, not true MSPs and at worst, are shady fly-by-night operators. This is where the Unified Certification Standard or (UCS) for Cloud & Managed Service Providers comes in.

The UCS was created by a team of dedicated MSPs to address the shortfalls of existing standards like ISO 27001, ITIL, CoBIT, SSAE 16, which were never intended for managed services organizations and offered little in the way of consumer protection.

CASE IN POINT: Many MSPs do NOT fail because of technical deficiencies, but due to financial risk. Because of this, customers have very little insight into the service provider's business practices and financial strengths and capabilities.

Attend this webcast and you will hear from real MSP executives on how the UCS certification and audit has helped them to:

    - Win new business
    - Provide needed transparency to customers
    - Achieve compliance objectives
    - Quickly develop trust with customers and prospects
    - Provide documentation on how those MSPs deliver their services
    - And much more...

Both Cloud and Managed Service Providers should attend this webcast and at least begin to follow the standards necessary to achieve managed services and cloud computing excellence.

If you’re an IT administrator, you have to manage an ever growing IT estate without enough IT staff. To respond in a timely manner and effectively manage this growing environment, you need comprehensive IT asset management software and hardware inventories of servers, workstations, mobile devices and applications on the network.

This task increases in difficulty as the network expands beyond the walls of your organisation to multiple remote locations. This environment is virtually impossible to administer without IT asset management and reporting automation.

Join this webinar and gain insight on how an effective IT asset management solution can help save your organisation time, money and headaches. Learn more about how you can:

    - View and manage the network efficiently from anywhere at any time
    - Gain access to any computer server and troubleshoot any issue from your office
    - Know at any time, exactly what software is running on the system, when the system was installed, when the license expires, its OS version, the latest security update installed, how much memory or capacity it had and so forth… down to the smallest detail

  • Texting. Smartphones. Tablets. Oh my! Business Communications in a Mobile World Jun 20 2013 8:00 pm UTC 60 mins
A lot has changed in the way we communicate for business. A decade ago, most organizations had employees who came to the office every day, used desktop computers and desk phones, and stopped communicating for work when they went home.

Today, people communicate for work anywhere, anytime, and on any device. Per Forrester, sixty-six percent of employees use two or more mobile devices for work. And according to Frost & Sullivan, nearly 25 percent of employees work from home or the road. What’s more, the desk phone is not the only business device. Based on a RingCentral survey, 35 percent of employees are using their mobile phones for work even when they are in the office. And nearly 80 percent of employees text for business, with 32 percent reporting that they’ve even closed a business deal via text.

Even with these undeniable business behavior changes, the vast majority of companies haven’t optimized their communications infrastructure for mobile workforces or BYOD.

Join this webinar to get ahead of the pack and learn the benefits of a cloud communications solution that supports the new world of work.

•Understand the trends driving mobility and behavior changes in the work place, with Melanie Turek, VP of Research for Enterprise Communication & Collaboration, Frost & Sullivan.

  • 3 Keys to Improving your Change & Configuration Management Jun 12 2013 12:00 pm UTC 45 mins
Getting good, solid processes and procedures in place for ITIL’s Change & Configuration Management processes is critical to serve as a quality foundation to develop from. IT organizations increasingly have a need to evolve beyond traditional Change Management and into a hybrid model where discovery and understanding dependencies is a central to the Change Management process. It is this linkage between Change and Configuration Management that has advanced the relationship into more complementary model.

In this session we will discuss how companies are moving beyond traditional connections between the service desk and CMDB to develop a consumer/provider model for their data and processes. We will look at how IT Service Management is getting smarter by leveraging the dependency and mapping data from the CMDB. Spreadsheets and home grown tools or integrations are increasingly a thing of the past.
  • Adapting ITIL Release and Change Management for Agile and DevOps Jun 12 2013 10:00 am UTC 45 mins
ITIL describes good practice processes, methods, and techniques for release management. However, these are largely based on how we used to deliver software. Agile development methods, including concepts such as continuous delivery, and the supporting concepts of DevOps, can seem at odds with ITIL good practice. This session will show you how ITIL Release and Change management can be effectively adapted and applied to support Agile and Devops, so that you get the best from both.

  • Aligning the Stars for Business Agility by Strategic Service Management May 30 2013 2:00 pm UTC 45 mins
Cloud computing has emerged as a dominant paradigm, widely adopted by enterprises today. Together with the rapid development of Cloud Computing, several related technological areas have also proliferated into a mega-scale web of complex enterprise challenges such as those arising from Big Data, Mobile Computing, Internet Governance, IT Security and the Internet of Things.

This means that enterprises now have a lot to manage and are often clueless about how enterprise resources should be managed to gain the maximum benefits and lower negative risks. To make the situation worse, many a times, many enterprises are finding themselves wasting resources on areas that do not really matter after all.

As they do not know what they do not know, enterprises are often clueless about where to begin 'to hit the right nails'; they are all searching for more effective, precise and actionable ways to tread this new ‘technological jungle’ efficiently and effectively. Specifically, enterprises are asking how a more flexible IT environment we now have can effectively improve business agility. In this seminar, Wee Wah will shed some clues on what matters most to align IT’s new found flexibility with business agility and how they could be done with strategic service management.

  • I Am Not an Accountant...! Recorded: May 15 2013 42 mins
Most people in IT entered the profession due to their interest and proficiency in technology. Not yet many IT practitioners set out to be accountants or marketers – although we constantly send out messages that state the need for skills in these areas.

There are more and more examples of accountants (or people from an accountancy, financial and other backgrounds) working in IT and there is a real need for commercial and financial skills and experience in this area.

The changing role and position of technology, the growth of managed services and the emergence of SIAM (Service Integration and Management) are driving the need for a new set of capabilities and competencies in IT and the management of technology. Clearly this presents a number of challenges for IT organisations and professionals alike – many of whom do not see themselves as being ‘bean counters’ or accountants…

    This session examines the following:

What are the new challenges for IT?
    What skills are needed?
What roles and responsibilities are required?
How can ‘traditional’ IT people and enterprise IT organisations adapt to meet these challenges?
What does the IT industry and e.g. enterprise of the future look like?
  • Show Me the Money: Why a Financial Analysis is Needed to Justify IT Investment Recorded: May 15 2013 37 mins
One of the significant changes resulting from the current economic climate has been the level of external scrutiny applied to IT initiatives. CFOs are demanding comprehensive business cases that can both articulate the value that IT brings to a business and withstand vetting by financial analysts. This session will integrate traditional financial models with business value metrics in order to provide an understandable vehicle for obtaining approval for IT Initiatives. Learn how to quantify financial costs and benefits in order to bridge the gap between what a CIO wants and what a CFO needs to justify the IT investment.
  • Fab 4 Use Cases – Measuring a Successful IT Financial Management Implementation Recorded: May 15 2013 46 mins
In today’s business environment, CIO’s are facing enormous pressure to drive value from their IT budgets and maximize investments to drive innovation.

Any ROI or cost benefit analysis requires well documented use cases that are not summarized in a single report, but rather a series of steps outlined to capture value. ROI or cost benefit analysis should be a process that is prescriptive and proactive – not an afterthought.

This session explores the following four common use cases that justify the IT Financial Management Implementation and shows attendees where to find value and revenue as well as where there is waste and hidden cost savings.

    1. IT Portfolio Optimization and Cloud – show me the value
    2. IT Financial Management for Application and Support Rationalization – show me the money
    3. Data Center Consolidation and Transformation – show me the waste & the big bucks
    4. Servers, Storage and Desktops Delivers Tangible Savings – show me the hidden cost of savings

The Fab Four in use cases are key measures of success that demonstrate the value to both IT and the organization. The session will provide attendees with the framework to establish these key measures for success in their organizations and gain insight into a better process for data collection, synthesis of the data, costing and the planning that is required.
