Starting and Measuring the Effectiveness of a Green DC Initiative
Given the regulatory, budgetary and complexity challenges that the modern organization faces, Information Technology leaders worldwide are viewing current or proposed initiatives to get “green” with both a high degree of interest and trepidation. The reason is that going green often appears as little more than an added burden on the IT organization. Given that customer demands are continually increasing and budgets are either flat or decreasing, how can IT respond in a meaningful way that doesn’t amplify the problem? The opportunity hidden within the Green initiative is about reducing waste, using assets more effectively and ensuring that the results are visible in both economic and environmental benefit. Unfortunately, many organizations artificially limit their thinking to a simple hardware refresh strategy. While there may be benefit to this, it’s often much less than anticipated or advertised.
