Testing Strategies for Ensuring the Success of Mobile Applications

Daniel Hartveld, Red Ant; Amichai Lesser, Shunra; Toby Marsden, Hewlett Packard
The use of mobile applications to conduct day to day business is set to increase exponentially over the next few years. Jupiter Research estimates that 1 in 8 will use mobile ticketing in 2015 and up to 1 billion will access financial services. Yet many companies have yet to develop a robust testing strategy for mobile applications

Testing mobile applications is complex. Not only do test teams have to validate the functionality of the mobile application, they also have to consider their performance under load as well as across multiple devices, carriers, operating systems and geographies. This requires test teams to adapt existing test methodologies and processes to ensure consistent behaviour across many environments

Challenges include:
-Evaluating the need for emulator-based or real device testing solutions
-Coping with varying bandwidth and user loads
-Identifying optimization opportunities for mobile application clients and infrastructure to ensure that applications remain responsive under challenging mobile network conditions and increasing load
-Post-release monitoring

Join HP, Shunra and Red Ant for a lively and interactive panel debate where we will be discussing the business impact of mobile functionality and performance across various sectors including finance, automotive, retail and consumer goods. In addition the experts panel will discuss best practices in implementing a mobile performance engineering framework to ensure companies are successful with their mobility projects.

  • The IT industry is currently undergoing one of the most radical disruptions in its history, as traditional data centers are being replaced with cloud computing environments. New workloads such as mobile computing, social networking, and big data analytics are driving the need for a more dynamic, agile approach to enterprise computing. It is most prevalent in the networks within and between modern data centers.

This presentation will discuss a new approach to application-aware data networking based on open industry standards (the Open Datacenter Interoperable Network, ODIN). In particular, we focus on recent approaches to SDN and NFV which deliver real value in next generation data networks. We will also discuss case studies which demonstrate the value of emerging cloud based, software defined environments.

Service Virtualisation – Test Further. Test Faster. Test Better!

Join us for a research based webinar led by Forrester, which uncovers and addresses the concerns of how to stay in step with the velocity of today’s application delivery.

Today's applications are largely compositions representing business processes put in place to better serve the business. But as businesses rapidly change, the need to adopt more agile processes is growing, which in turn means that the supporting applications must also be flexible.

For example did you know that:

•close to 70% of IT leaders think that they need to increase overall automation to shorten release cycles?
•over 58% of IT leaders see a clear need for more integration testing in 12-18 months for systems of engagement because of growing architecture complexity?
•long testing cycles are seen as a huge impediment to shorter and more frequent releases?
