Intel IT set out with an aggressive goal to increase efficiency of the PO business process on a global basis by using BPMS and SAP Netweaver services. Moving the business process from the SAP SRM user interface to the BPMS system exposed several security, service governance, and credential propagation issues between the two environments. An SAP certified Intel Service Gateway solution was chosen that enabled Intel IT to virtualize the SAP services using Enterprise Services Repository for consumption from non-SAP platforms and even across SAP subsystems.
This presentation describes how Intel IT leveraged a Service Gateway to create a seamless security policy enforcement architecture that simplified the messaging design, reduced unnecessary authentications, and enabled the BPMS business person to use their personal signature authorities in SRM. The business benefits are projected to be ground-breaking for Intel: expanded global system use, dramatic automation for the business user, id-based transaction reporting for centralized security audit, and expanded use of PO line item volume discount analysis reporting for non-SAP applications utilizing NetWeaver services.
