  • Customer Experience Summit 2017: Building a Citizen-Centric Government Customer Experience Summit 2017: Building a Citizen-Centric Government Government Executive | Nextgov Mar 9 2017 1:15 pm UTC 255 mins
In the private sector, customer satisfaction is a hallmark and requisite for business success. Meanwhile the federal government, despite having the largest customer base in the country serving millions of American citizens everyday, had traditionally focused its efforts on ensuring the mission success rather than customer satisfaction. A majority of citizens are dissatisfied with how well the government works, frequently citing a lack of trust between the government and public, difficulty in seeking relevant services or information from federal agencies delivered on their own terms and a slew of other complaints that could be addressed through improved customer service. How can the government influence customer-focused change within their organizations and boost citizen satisfaction in the services they provide while continuing to meet mission needs.

At Government Executive and Nextgov's 2017 Customer Experience Summit, we'll explore the strategies and success stories behind citizen-centric government. Through case studies and conversations with those in government and industry, we'll learn why focusing on what matters to citizens can make your agency more efficient, effective and prepared to achieve mission success.

This presentation will review basic mobility device securement principles and discuss trouble shooting practices for situations where achieving those principles is difficult or even impossible.  Finally, we will review some significant advancements in securement equipment, wheelchairs, and regulation that have the long term potential to alleviate these securement difficulties.

  • Fathers and Shared Parental Leave: New research and employer experiences Fathers and Shared Parental Leave: New research and employer experiences James Marsh, HRreview; Jennifer Liston-Smith, My Family Care Apr 6 2017 10:00 am UTC 60 mins
Take up of SPL is building slowly but it is still low. If we are serious about unleashing the economic potential of women, then it’s not enough just to look at women as leaders. It also needs to be OK for men to be carers. Take up of SPL is therefore a key indicator. And one that enlightened employers have already understood is VITAL to their gender diversity aims.

In 2017 My Family Care and the Women’s Business Council are working together in a best practice and research partnership. The qualitative approach is aimed at understanding not only WHY take-up is still relatively low, but to HOW SPL is being used by fathers and partners, WHAT impact it has had on their lives and careers as well as WHAT needs to be done to improve take up.

In this webinar we’ll be sharing our findings and inviting leading employer panellists to comment on the experiences within their organisations.

  • Girls Can Code - It is Never Too Early to Start the Conversation Girls Can Code - It is Never Too Early to Start the Conversation Anita R. Wood, Assistant Professor, Computer Information Technology at Pennsylvania College of Technology Apr 24 2017 5:00 pm UTC 60 mins
As a professor in a STEM career path, programming, I frequently ask my female student “How did you become interested in this career?” The answer seems to center on one fact – “My parents exposed me to computers when I was younger. As I became more and more interested they helped me understand there was a career in this.”

This early introduction to computer helps my female students overcome another observation I had made – girls feel like boys have been ‘engineering’ or ‘coding’ for a long time.

The stereotypical comment “Boys play with Legos and robots, and girls play with dolls and tea sets,” this seems to support this observation.

So, how do we address the lack of females entering into STEM careers? I propose we start at home.

This webinar addresses some of the obstacles we must overcome with regards to leveling the playing field between girls entering STEM and boys.

    About the Presenter:
Anita R. Wood is an Assistant Professor for Computer Information Technology at the Pennsylvania College of Technology.
