The Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme (ESOS) is an EU directive that requires large companies to carry out regular energy audits. Its ultimate aim is to help the EU meet its target of reducing energy consumption by 20% by 2020, but it has been estimated that the scheme will lead to £1.6bn worth of benefits to the UK.
