Benefits of Accurate MICs in Routine Testing to Manage AMR

Presented by

Emilia Cercenado

About this talk

MICs play a significant role in antimicrobial susceptibility testing. In this presentation, Professor Emilia Cercenado examines the importance of accurate MICs in routine testing, particularly for treatment of infections, appropriate use of antimicrobials and detection of resistance. After viewing this presentation, you will be able to: •Explain the role of antimicrobial testing in helping to predict—through in vitro assessment—the likelihood of successfully treating a patient’s infection with a particular antimicrobial agent •Describe the importance of antimicrobial susceptibility testing in bacterial species not predictably susceptible to drugs of choice for such infections •Discuss the detection of clinically relevant antimicrobial resistance in organisms causing an infection P.A.C.E. credit is available for your participation.* Presenter: Emilia Cercenado, Pharm.D. Professor Emilia Cercenado is the staff senior specialist in microbiology and parasitology at Hospital General Universitario Gregorio Marañón in Madrid, Spain, and an associate professor of microbiology at the Complutense University, also in Madrid. Prof. Cercenado has a Pharm. D. and has held a research fellow position at the University of California at Los Angeles and Harvard Medical School. Prof. Cercenado has co-authored over 340 publications and serves as associate editor of Enfermedades Infecciosas y Microbiologia Clinica. *Beckman Coulter Inc. is approved as a provider of continuing education programs in the clinical laboratory sciences by the ASCLS P.A.C.E.® Program.
