  • Building Durable Storage Solutions with Intel® Optane™ Persistent Memory Jun 23 2020 6:00 pm UTC 60 mins
Chet Douglas, Principal SW Architect at Intel; and Steve Scargall, Persistent Memory Software and Cloud Architect at Intel
The new Intel® Optane™ persistent memory (PMem) redefines traditional architectures, offering large capacity and new memory tier at an affordable cost. Your application performance can be significantly accelerated by utilizing persistent memory; however, development can be challenging. The Persistent Memory Developer Kit (PMDK) and training materials will help guide you. The performance benefits of using persistent memory remotely over a Remote Direct Memory Access (RDMA) network, in place of traditional storage, can be significant. While the same persistent memory programming rules apply, there is the additional challenge of implementing that programming model over a network. This webinar will start with a quick refresher on the SNIA persistent memory programming model basics, what RDMA is and how it works, and how RDMA can be utilized with persistent memory. Through the use of simple animations, the webinar will then demonstrate two specific methods that can be utilized today to unlock the use of persistent memory remotely. The session will close with a brief overview of current RDMA support in PMDK.

    Attendees will learn about:
    • A brief introduction to the SNIA programming model for persistent memory
    • A brief introduction to RDMA, what it is and how it works
    • Implementing the persistent memory programming model over an RDMA connection
    • The two methods that are being utilized today to access remote persistent memory with RDMA
    • Current RDMA support in PMDK

  • Maximizing vBNG throughput and subscriber density with 2nd generation Intel Xeon Recorded: Mar 25 2020 57 mins
Paul Stevens (Advantech), David Williams (netElastic), Jeff Kibodeaux (WWT) & Ai Bee Lim (Intel)
Next generation networks will require a significant boost in performance, network throughput and agility to maximize the opportunities created by 5G at sustainable costs. At the virtual edge it is vital that platforms deployed today take full advantage of commercial off the shelf servers with NUMA balanced designs and multi-node scalability in order to reduce dependence on proprietary designs and lower TCO.

This webinar addresses the architectural shortcomings found when disaggregating network, compute and storage from the upper-layer application function and how Intel Select Solutions can help Communication Service Providers (CommSPs) simplify network design choices with:
    - a balanced server reference design, where each NUMA node has identical capacity resources
    - a multi-node architecture which allows user-plane functions to be scaled out across multiple systems enabling a more efficient use of hardware resources for lower TCO
    - a commercial vBNG solution that supports increased subscriber density, while maintaining high throughput and cost efficiency per rack unit
    - unique remote vBNG evaluation and benchmarking services deployed in WWT’s Advanced Technology Center

  • Atipa Polaris Select HPCV Clusters: A Unified Platform for HPC and Visualization Recorded: Dec 4 2018 26 mins
Jim Jeffers, Sr. Director, Principal Engineer, Intel; Bart Willems, Director, Sr. HPC Engineer/Architect, Atipa
Scientific simulations and modeling continue to produce larger and larger data sets. For our brain to understand and digest these vast amounts of data, visualization becomes an indispensable tool for post-simulation processing. Data produced by simulations is therefore often copied to high-end workstations and servers with special-purpose GPUs. As simulations continue to grow, moving and copying data becomes increasingly inefficient, time consuming, and wasteful of resources. The Atipa Polaris Select HPCV Cluster Family built on Intel Xeon Scalable Processors and Intel Omni-Path Fabric technology is the industry's first unified platform for scientific simulation and visualization. Using Intel Xeon optimized rendering engines, Atipa Polaris Select HPCV clusters offer in-situ visualization of big data on the same HPC system used to generate the data, eliminating the need for wasteful data transfers and special purpose hardware.
