Building Durable Storage Solutions with Intel® Optane™ Persistent Memory

Presented by

Chet Douglas, Principal SW Architect at Intel; and Steve Scargall, Persistent Memory Software and Cloud Architect at Intel

About this talk

The new Intel® Optane™ persistent memory (PMem) redefines traditional architectures, offering large capacity and new memory tier at an affordable cost. Your application performance can be significantly accelerated by utilizing persistent memory; however, development can be challenging. The Persistent Memory Developer Kit (PMDK) and training materials will help guide you. The performance benefits of using persistent memory remotely over a Remote Direct Memory Access (RDMA) network, in place of traditional storage, can be significant. While the same persistent memory programming rules apply, there is the additional challenge of implementing that programming model over a network. This webinar will start with a quick refresher on the SNIA persistent memory programming model basics, what RDMA is and how it works, and how RDMA can be utilized with persistent memory. Through the use of simple animations, the webinar will then demonstrate two specific methods that can be utilized today to unlock the use of persistent memory remotely. The session will close with a brief overview of current RDMA support in PMDK. Attendees will learn about: • A brief introduction to the SNIA programming model for persistent memory • A brief introduction to RDMA, what it is and how it works • Implementing the persistent memory programming model over an RDMA connection • The two methods that are being utilized today to access remote persistent memory with RDMA • Current RDMA support in PMDK
