Building Durable Storage Solutions with Intel Optane Persistent Memory - Part 2

Presented by

Tomasz Gromadzki, Software Architect (Intel); and Steve Scargall, Persistent Memory Software and Cloud Architect (Intel)

About this talk

The new Intel® Optane™ persistent memory (PMem) redefines traditional architectures, offering large capacity and new memory tier at an affordable cost. The performance benefits of using persistent memory remotely over a Remote Direct Memory Access (RDMA) network, in place of traditional storage, can be significant. While the same persistent memory programming rules apply, there is the additional challenge of implementing that programming model over a network. Part 1- of this webinar covered the introduction to RDMA, and how RDMA can be utilized with persistent memory and demonstrated two specific methods that can be utilized today to unlock the use of persistent memory remotely. In this webinar, we go deeper in to RDMA and describe the new RPMA library that will be added to the Persistent Memory Development Kit (PMDK). Attendees will learn about: •an overview of existing methods of data replication •the existing software components that can be used to build remote persistent memory access solutions •the API developed by the PMDK team to make remote persistent memory access easy to integrate with end-user applications * For a basic understanding of persistent memory concepts & features of the PMDK, visit the Intel Developer Zone software.intel.com/persistent_memory Tomasz Gromadzki is a Software Architect at Intel Corp (Memory and Storage Product Group) focusing on remote persistent memory solutions development. He’s spent over 20 years on design, development and deployment of distributed control systems for industrial, power distribution and mining automation. Steve Scargall is a Persistent Memory Software and Cloud Architect at Intel Corp. He wrote the “Programming Persistent Memory: A Comprehensive Guide for Developers” book and supports enabling & development effort to integrate persistent memory technology into software stacks, applications, and hardware architectures. He has over 19 years’ experience including his tenure at Sun Microsystems and Oracle.
