The moment of truth for the Eurozone

The COVID-19 outbreak has disrupted the world economy and Europe has been at the epicentre of the chaos. It is likely the pandemic will force Europe to decide now whether it wants to move forward – towards a fiscal union – or backwards, revisiting the questions of default and exit.

During this webinar, Richard Barwell, Head of Macro Research for BNP Paribas Asset Management will present:

• The economic and fiscal consequences of the world war against COVID-19 and what history teaches us about the potential end games

• The critical role that central banks can play in supporting the economy and financing the costs of fighting the virus

• Why the pandemic has resurrected concerns about the ongoing stability of the Eurozone and the potential for disintegration

Throughout this 60 minute webcast we will discuss the importance of sustainable investing and how the outbreak of Covid-19 exposed social, economic and environmental inadequacies. Our portfolio managers from both Healthcare and Structured Securities will also provide updates on how their asset classes have been impacted as a result of the pandemic.

Anu Rames, ESG Analyst, will begin our discussion on the importance of ESG investing, in particular focusing on the “S” and how Covid-19 has affected the key pillars of society from healthcare, housing to education.

Jon Stephenson, CFA, Portfolio Manager, Healthcare, will discuss the various trends he’s seeing within healthcare such as the emergence of telemedicine, how data and devices are impacting patient outcomes, how industry is responding to address key issues related to the pandemic, how the pandemic has accelerated technological adoption and systematic change within the sector.

Matt Slootsky, Portfolio Manager, Structured Securities, will round our conversation with a discussion on the housing market, which is booming, even though there’s increased unemployment and a world-wide pandemic. Matt will also share his outlook on housing and the mortgage market and what we should expect to see on the horizon.

  • ESG and the Evolution of Small Cap Investing Recorded: Feb 4 2020 33 mins
    Pam Hegarty and Eric McLaughlin
Investing today is moving beyond strictly modelling future cash-flows and earnings, to a paradigm where one must strive to understand and consider environmental, social and governance factors (ESG) as part of their investment rationale. Our consideration of ESG is driven by client preferences, as well as by our changing world. This can be a complicated matter for small cap investors and, because the evolution of the topic of ESG has been swift, smaller companies can have fewer resources available to deal with its ramifications.

During this webcast, our US Equities team will discuss the four key elements of our approach to ESG integration: screening criteria, risk assessment, opportunity identification, and engagement. We will also discuss the challenges in applying ESG to the small cap universe, including lack of disclosure on the part of companies, less availability of third party data and research, and how we manage those challenges.
