OPNFV Overview: Navigating Its Many Projects

NFV continues to gain prominence in both the telecom industry and enterprises. OPNFV is an open source systems integration project to create and test open source to help create a complete NFV stack as defined by the ETSI reference architecture. However, the unique nature of the project makes it difficult to understand than "traditional" open source software development projects. In this webinar, we will look at the OPNFV project as a whole and through a high-level review of its roughly 60 projects. Suitable for both practitioners and decision makers, you will learn:
* An overview of the OPNFV project
* An introduction to create-integrate-test categories
* Upstream and OPNFV projects that belong to the above categories
Join us on March 22 as Amar Kapadia and Nick Chase help you navigate through the various OPNFV projects.

  • What's New in OPNFV Danube? May 18 2017 3:00 pm UTC 60 mins
Amar Kapadia, NFV Specialist at Mirantis and Serg Melikyan, Technical Customer Success Manager at Mirantis
In March of this year, the OPNFV community will make generally available its 4th release, OPNFV Danube. As always, this version includes hundreds of new features and fixes, but what does that really mean to you?

Our fast-paced, in-depth look at what's new in OpenStack Danube focuses on the major highlights of this release, but we'll also give you an idea of what's going on in the rest of the ecosystem -- now roughly 60 different projects -- so you'll know where to turn your attention next.

In this webinar, you will learn:

    - How the OPNFV ecosystem has changed in the last year
    - What new scenarios are covered by Danube
    - What testing improvements will you find in Danube
    - What new features has Danube influenced in the constituent upstream projects
    - How can you get involved or take advantage of OPNFV Danube
  • Advanced SD-WAN Monitoring and Management May 2 2017 3:00 pm UTC 60 mins
Jeremy Rossbach, Sr. Principal Product Marketing Manager and Timothy Diep, Director of Product Management, SDN & NFV Solution
How does SD-WAN shift the status quo for Operations teams? SD-WAN technology possesses sophisticated, in-built capability for operations and management, and advanced automation to address network problems in real-time. However, network operations teams need to seamlessly integrate this network and health status intelligence from their new SD-WAN infrastructure into their existing monitoring and management infrastructure. Additionally, monitoring solutions must provide visibility across all network architectures including highly dynamic and complex hybrid clouds and other SDN elements and should:
    - Eliminate visibility gaps between traditional networks and SD-WAN providing administrators with insights to optimize and transform their large hybrid networks
    - Provide relationship mapping of major IT events
    - Visualize physical and logical dependencies in applications and service chains
    - Extend visibility for operators with network performance monitoring across traditional, SDN, NFV, SDDC, SD-WAN, NFV and cloud networks (including service chains)
    - Enable operational insight into how all elements of traditional and overlay networks affect service integrity
  • Integration of OpenDaylight Service Function Chaining & Vector Packet Processing Apr 13 2017 3:00 pm UTC 45 mins
Yi Yang, Sr. Software Engineer & Danny Zhou, SDN/NFV Software Architect at Intel
Vector Packet Processing (VPP) is a high performance, packet-processing framework that can run on commodity CPUs. It can also act as Open vSwitch (OvS) alternative in most Cloud data center and Telco SDN/NFV scenarios. This webinar will show how OpenDaylight service function chaining (SFC) leverages VPP to implement network service header (NSH) based service function chaining and a recorded video will help the audience understand more details.
  • Addressing Emerging PrivateLTE Opportunities w/ a Flexible Virtualized Solution Apr 11 2017 3:00 pm UTC 60 mins
Jennifer P. Clark - VP, Network Research, 451 Research; Douglas Ranalli - Founder & Chief Strategy Officer, NetNumber
Private LTE networks are becoming the critical infrastructure for a variety of vertical markets. This webinar will explore the requirements of these markets and the unique capabilities of the NetNumber TITAN centralized signaling and routing control platform to deliver the core signaling and database applications on a single virtual machine that can scale down to run on the often-limited resources available in a Private LTE network instance.

NetNumber supports a wide range of deployment environments including COTS hardware running on Intel architecture. NetNumber also provides the capability to centrally provision the distributed LTE core instances without the need for any additional management applications, which would otherwise take up additional compute resources.

  • How Distributed Systems Define the New Era of IT Security Recorded: Feb 8 2017 55 mins
Marc Woolward, CTO, vArmour and Sab Gosal, Segment Manager, NPG, Intel
The digital economy is built upon distributed systems. Distributed systems scale horizontally, interconnect via APIs, and are highly resilient. The security solution for this digital economy needs to be equally distributed and capable of scaling  out across the multicloud.

The world has changed – the perimeter is disappearing alongside an explosion of internal threats. The imperative is to wrap security controls around assets so that environmental changes do not expose critical assets that need protection at all times. Security requirements have changed from the legacy appliance model to the modern distributed model.

In this Webinar, we will discuss how modern software architectures solve today’s security challenges – particularly in addressing complexity, scaling across the multicloud, innovating new controls, and providing visibility into application requirements and relationships

Intel x86 and virtualized platforms offer ubiquitous, fast, cost efficient solutions, allowing for deep packet processing at high speed and rapid deployment of new features in software. These platforms are unconstrained by the limitations of specialist hardware, ‘appliance thinking', and network technology posing as security products – Welcome to the new era of IT security, enabled by Intel and vArmour.

More is being asked of the enterprise WAN than ever before—providing direct connectivity to the cloud, understanding what applications are and how they are performing, and providing security functions in a cost-effective fashion all the way to the branch. Traditional ASIC-based WAN architectures, while providing excellent forwarding performance, lack the flexibility to adapt to the needs of the enterprise WAN both today and in the future. This webinar will address the key architectural benefits of Intel architectures and how they can enable next generation SD-WANs, as well as the benefits that end customers can realize including lower acquisition cost, faster service enablement and lowest ongoing total cost of ownership.
  • Enabling a Software Life Cycle for IoT Devices: From CPE to Enterprise Gateways Recorded: Nov 1 2016 58 mins
Manik Taneja Product Manager, Ubuntu Core
Most embedded devices today never see a software update once shipped from the factory. Even if a software update is available, it's still very cumbersome to apply. More often than not, the update process is riddled with artifacts relying entirely on the end consumer. Given the complexities of keeping/maintaining the device, it's no surprise that adding to it capabilities with new software is challenging.
In this session, we are going to introduce novel ways to manage a device life cycle. This new paradigm of software design enables transactional updates, application isolation and security as fundamental building blocks.
