  • Multi-Access Edge Computing with Network Programmability Mar 3 2020 4:00 pm UTC 60 mins
Sven Freudenfeld - CTO Telecom Application BU at Lanner and Jesper Eriksson - VP of Product Management at NoviFlow Inc.
Cloud Services, IoT, 5G and MEC are driving applications ever closer to the network edge, challenging existing network/cloud edge infrastructure to scale into the multi-Tbps range as well as to meet severely reduced latency requirements. Using traditional fixed function network technologies to deliver this enhanced Multi-access Edge Computing unfortunately adds latency to packet flows, multiplies networking costs, limits scalability and drives expenses through the roof. Programmable match-action data planes, combined with programmable compute resources, make it possible deploy Multi-access Edge Computing as an intelligent resource that brings the network into full partnership with applications and coordinates flows across enterprises and global networks.

In this webinar, Intel, Lanner and NoviFlow will present an all-in-one MEC solution that demonstrates these principles by uniting Intel scalable compute node, Intel/Barefoot Tofino programmable networking, and NoviFlow's NoviWare and CyberMapper programmable networking software. They will also present how this solution optimizes information flows, minimizes latency, and makes the best possible utilization of all network and compute resources, thus reducing hardware costs, operating expenditures and even energy utilization. Use cases for PE-Router, Mobile Edge Computing, Service Chaining with SRV6, Private LTE and IPTV will be presented and discussed.

  • DPI: The Key Technology for Application Performance Monitoring Solutions Recorded: Dec 17 2019 44 mins
John Hallett, Sales Manager EMEA at ipoque GmbH, a Rohde & Schwarz company
When it comes to managing application performance, most enterprises today use application performance monitoring (APM) tools. APM is a unified monitoring technique that uses analytics to provide visibility into the end-to-end performance of an enterprise application, measuring it against pre-determined performance, security and QoE targets.

By using deep packet inspection (DPI) technology, APM tools are able to go beyond the usual simple network management protocol (SNMP) and flow-based traffic monitoring to detect performance issues. DPI is a technique for monitoring network and application traffic at packet level. Using response time metrics for packets sent between clients and servers, enterprise administrators can regulate traffic flows and differentiate between network and application issues.
This is necessary for a converged, end-to-end overview of enterprise application performance, which requires real-time analytics on enterprise network links and connectivity such as LAN and WAN, as well as on user devices and external connectivity.
Discover in this webinar why DPI is crucial for achieving an up-to-date overview of system traffic, determining root causes of performance issues, detecting inappropriate traffic and security risks, and reacting to network slowdowns (which often remain undetected) before they impact end users.

By the end of this session, attendees will have learned:
•How application delivery creates challenges for enterprises related to managing their applications’ performance and security
•How APM solutions help enterprises to monitor and diagnose application delivery issues
•Why packet-level analytics provided by DPI have become a crucial technology for APM solutions
•What the benefits of DPI are for APM use cases
•What sourcing options are available for DPI solutions
•How to evaluate and answer the key aspects when deciding whether to build or buy DPI technology
  • Enable the Edge: Orchestration and Automation for Edge Computing Recorded: Dec 12 2019 59 mins
David Carrera, Scientific Director, Nearby Computing
Edge Computing adoption is today limited by the lack of efficient tools that can manage its complexity: from the lifecycle management of an extremely distributed infrastructure to the operation of an ecosystem of specific components, ranging from networking elements to edge applications. Operation of edge computing is challenging as it comprises heterogeneous architectures and networking models, while from the point of view of management, unified and modular solutions are required.

In this session, we will demonstrate how the NearbyComputing One solution automates the provisioning and deployment of edge computing environments for two specific scenarios: 1) uCPEs with limited compute power using a custom virtualization user plane that combines virtual machines and docker containers; and 2) private LTE environments that require both virtualized RAN and EPC components. Through the unique model-driven approach and seamless interoperability of our solution, companies across diverse sectors (CSPs, Oil & Gas, Industry 4.0, Smart Cities) see their operational costs reduced by simplifying the management of their infrastructure, automating complex processes and introducing new high-value services that could not be deployed before.
  • Running I/O intensive workloads on Kubernetes with Cloudify Orchestration Recorded: Dec 11 2019 53 mins
Nati Shalom, Founder and CTO, Cloudify and Petar Torre, Principal Engineer, Intel
Kubernetes was originally developed for running large-scale container based web applications, which have been typically designed with Cloud Native principles in mind enabling workloads portability. I/O intensive applications represent a category of high-end applications such as network and trading services, that require advanced networking and deterministic performance. Kubernetes has not been design to support this category of application.

Intel has been working with the industry to address this unmet gap in Kubernetes, adding to Kubernetes new networking features such as support for multiple interfaces, hardware accelerators, NUMA topology, CPU management and more.

In this webinar, we will demonstrate how Cloudify orchestrates F5 Networks’ containerized network functions running in a Kubernetes managed NFVI platform using Intel® QuickAssist Technology. The solution is based on complete decoupling between system layers to allow faster application onboarding and easier Life Cycle Management, effectively delivering “Environment as a Service” (EaaS). We will also show how to use placement policy to allow the deployment of applications across multiple clouds.

  • Critical NFVI Performance - KPIs to Validate Recorded: Oct 3 2019 54 mins
    Thomas Lindquist CTO of VoerEir
VoerEir focus on helping operators be successful with their NFV transformation. A cornerstone in our strategy is our list of NFVI performance-KPIs, which determine the performance of VNFs deployed on top of a specific NFVI. There are two prime use cases of these KPIs; First, for a VNF vendor to be able to commit to a performance SLA, the vendor must know the characteristics of the infrastructure on which his VNF shall be deployed. Second, if a VNF does not fulfill his performance SLAs, the operator must be able to sort out where the responsibility lays, on the VNF or the NFVI vendor. The tricky part is to find the KPIs which are essential for different types of VNFs' performance. This webinar describes VoerEir’s way of reasoning when creating the list of performance-KPIs and gives examples of detailed definitions for different kinds of KPIs. It also talks about how VoerEir is working with this in industry forums, and how our test system Touchstone can is used to perform VoerEir’s NFVI evaluation service.
