A private 5G network based upon Nokia DAC technology and implemented by Datwyler plays an important role at the smartfactory@stürmsfs. It has become an indispensable connectivity backbone for machine integration and data mining, without limitations – flexible performant and reliable.

5G enabled – Smart Factory @ stürmsfs

Disaggregated and virtualized Radio Access Network (RAN) enables 5G market competition and customer choice with lower equipment costs, and improved network performance. Open RAN deployments can be implemented in vendor-neutral hardware and software-defined technology, based on open interfaces and community-developed standards. Many 5G use-cases run well on pure CPU platforms, but as bandwidths increase and advanced antenna systems are deployed, hardware oftentimes struggle to keep up and start driving impractical levels of power consumption. Hardware acceleration is needed for the compute-heavy Layer-1, or physical layer. Cybersecure Private 5G In-A-Box for Edge Deployments

Most key exchange methods used to secure data in networks today use mechanisms that are broken by quantum computers. Even before quantum computers become available, it’s possible for attackers to store data today and decrypt it later. Information that needs to be kept secret for a long time (state secrets, personal health and genomics data, trade secrets, financial data, etc.) is already at risk since it can be easily siphoned from public networks and stored encrypted in a data silo until it can be decrypted.

Arqit’s Symmetric Key Agreement™ Platform (SKA) is a cloud-hosted or on-prem service that can secure networks with encryption that is unbreakable by a quantum computer. This allows endpoints to upgrade the security of communication channels they create, like an IPsec tunnel. 

Arqit and Intel have joined forces to produce a number of out-the-box post-quantum cryptography (PQC) solutions. Different edge applications may require different characteristics from the Edge site, for example low latency, very high throughput, high write IOPS and so on. With growing number of edge sites catering to different needs and use-cases, there needs to be a categorisation of edge sites based on KPIs. Once these characteristics or KPIs are defined and measured for an edge site, it becomes easy for application onboarding thereby providing an acceptable level of performance/response.
