Storage in Hybrid-cloud and Container Environments: What You Need to Know

Presented by

Russ Fellows

About this talk

In this session, we will review how container ecosystems differ from other application environments. As Kubernetes continues its rapid assent towards becoming the predominate management framework for containers, there are implications for applications and container ecosystems resources. With the standardization of interfaces for compute, networking and storage within Kubernetes, these frameworks will impact how these resources are consumed and managed by applications, developers and system operators. We will look specifically at the need for persistent storage and a common set of interfaces that enable storage system to provide persistent storage to Kubernetes (K8s) managed containers. The emergence of the Common Storage Interface, or CSI specification is rapidly shifting the discussion among dev/op teams and storage vendor. Questions addressed include: 1) How does persistent storage work with containers? 2) What storage options are available with K8s? 3) What hybrid cloud options are their for persistent K8s storage? 4) How is CSI best used with K8s?
