ISO 20022 is a global standard for financial messaging that provides a common language for exchanging financial information between financial institutions. Starting in March 2023, the European Payments Council (EPC) will require the use of ISO 20022 for all Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA) credit transfers and direct debits. This transition is expected to increase transparency, improve data quality enhance customer experience and increase automation. Overall, the transition to ISO 20022 in Europe is expected to bring about significant improvements to the payment landscape and help drive innovation and growth in the financial services industry.
