With the advent of artificial intelligence and the Internet of Things, more data are being generated every day. The ability to store, access and analyze all that data, to use the predictive insights from big data analytics to transform business, and to do so economically has become a strategic imperative for many companies.
In this webinar, Western Digital discusses its latest storage technology and how this dynamic platform enables advancements in the economics of data. ESG analyst Mark Peters and Sundance Institutes’ Justin Simmons, Director of Technology Services, and Tanya De Angelis, Associate Director of Archives & Collection, also provide perspective on the impact of this storage technology.

How to get the most out of vSAN – VMware’s Hyper-Converged Infrastructure (HCI) software. In this webinar you will learn testing and tuning insights and lessons learned from Western Digital’s ongoing vSAN performance test bed. Learn the test bed design and why it’s done the way it is. You’ll find the answers to questions such as: What performance tools are used in the industry and why? How do vSAN features such as Erasure Coding, Deduplication and Compression, and Object Checksum impact performance? What design principles should be used when configuring your vSAN and implementing your VMs? What does “Working Set” mean, and how does it impact performance? What other knobs can be turned (e.g., Disk Stripes per Object, Cache Line Settings, etc.), and what can you expect from them?

Join Esther Spanjer, Director, Enterprise Business Development EMEA, for this webinar where she will discuss how SanDisk branded SSDs and HGST branded HDDs and SSDs are ideal for environments that run Hadoop databases. This webinar will look at cases where, SanDisk and HGST devices, can dramatically reduce query response times and minimize server sprawl by tuning compute and storage separately. Optimizing your Hadoop environment that suffer from queries that take too long to return data or in which applications are not meeting their SLAs, will enable you to reduce your server footprint at massively increased query performance.
Jason Coposky, Executive Director, iRODS Consortium; Linda Zhou, Director, HPC and Life Sciences Solutions
This talk will cover an introduction to the four core competencies of iRODS and their application to data centric, metadata driven, data management. We will then explore how iRODS interfaces with HPC and other models of computation as well as review existing iRODS production deployments.
When adding new storage capacity, or when hard drives fail, storage admins are challenged with rebalancing data.
Here's a visual representation of how the proprietary Dynamic Data Placement technology in the ActiveScale object storage system offers enhanced data durability, faster data rebuild time, and simplified data management. With Dynamic Data Placement you can add new capacity with no performance re-balancing.

VMware vSAN provides a platform for implementing virtualization on a hyper-converged infrastructure, but it needs proper storage components to work best. Join Esther Spanjer, Director, Enterprise Business Development EMEA, for this webinar where she will look at how HGST-brand HDDs combined with HGST-and SanDisk-brand SSDs can provide the capacity and cost savings of a hybrid approach for many vSAN clusters.
The exponential growth of data creating devices and data consuming applications continues to accelerate the virtuous cycle of innovation. An insatiable hunger for faster results, precise predictions, immersive experiences, prescriptive recommendations, along with an ever-broadening service economy has launched us into a data-centric universe at both hyperspeed and hyperscale. To maintain the pace of acceleration, the demands of Artificial Intelligence, machine learning and autonomous systems will need to create, access and transform "fast data" at increasing speeds. Likewise, prognosticators and algorithmic scientists will need to capture, protect and analyze increasing volumes of "big data" to achieve the precision required for complex reasoning. Without this essential speed and scale, the soaring value and promise of data is at risk of stalling. Martin Fink, chief technology officer at Western Digital, will offer insights into the opportunities and obstacles that we face in our data-centric universe. Among the topics explored will be: the state of 3D NAND, Storage Class Memory technologies, and the architectural disruptions required to unleash the precision and diversity of emerging fast data and big data applications.

From sequencer to archive, the genomics data lifecycle can be characterized by brief periods of intense parallel computation, followed by an eternity of relative data at rest. Ever since the mapping of the first human genome, single-tier scale-out NAS and parallel file systems have been the predominant types of storage used in genomics because they were best at providing both high performance when needed — and capacity forever. But they are expensive because that single-tier provides both high performance and capacity all the time, even though high performance is only briefly needed during the genomics data lifecycle. This webcast will demonstrate how HGST innovations in flash and object storage can target and optimize the two genomics lifecycle regimes, delivering extreme performance for computation with flash on the IBM Spectrum Scale parallel file system — and cost effectively keeping genomics data protected and accessible over increasingly longer retention periods with HGST ActiveScale object storage, with the ability to transparently migrate data between flash and object tiers.

Unstructured data is like renegade data. It doesn't fit into a spreadsheet with rows and columns, i’s not in an ERP or CRM where you know what kind of data is in each cell, or how it relates to the rest of the data. So how do you create a sense of order among all this data chaos?
In this webinar you’ll learn about an alternative storage option to overspending on SAN and NAS solutions: object storage. You’ll leave this webinar knowing:
- What is unstructured data
- What are the storage challenges
- The pros/cons of different storage options (SAN,NAS,Object) for scale, performance, durability and cost.
There are many purposes for storing unstructured data; greater customer insight, exposing security threats, or archiving original media files. The challenge from a storage perspective, is how to create order from the chaos.
