This webinar offers an overview of the recently announced ETSI Open Source MANO Release TWELVE, and a demonstration of some of its latest features.

Release TWELVE is the second Long Term Support release of ETSI Open Source MANO bringing a significant progression in terms of functionality, with the addition of new healing capabilities, improved day-2 operations for Network Services, and ETSI NFV-SOL003 support for Network Functions life cycle management, among others.

OSM Release TWELVE Overview

ETSI ISG IPE is addressing a number of major industry scenarios to fulfil the connectivity needs that arise from each sector. The Rapporteurs of each report addressing 5G transport, Cloud Integration and Datacenter, Industrial Internet and Enterprise, and IPv6 based Blockchain present their key findings and recommendations.

Part 1: IPv6 Enhanced Innovation Global Vision

The F5G network has three characteristics for extending and enhancing fixed networks, defined as eFBB, FFC and GRE. To implement these characteristics, the F5G architecture has introduced new design principles and new features. Such features include separation of the data plane into an Underlay Plane and a Service Plane, dual network fabrics for the Aggregation Network, comprising an IP/Ethernet and an OTN fabric, and the seamless and combined usage of PON and OTN, and E2E slicing. Based on these design principles and new features, F5G can provide a variety of services for residential and enterprise customers over one physical network with guaranteed SLAs. 

The webinar will provide brief introduction of the E2E F5G architecture and addressing the above mentioned features. Besides the network architecture, also the overall ISG F5G projects and its progress will be illustrated.

This presentation aims to introduce the concept of polymorphic intelligent network and provide several use cases to verify related functions:1. Demonstrate the use of intent-based interface to translate the network application requirement to different network modal configuration and support the coexistence and collaboration of polymorphic network; 2. Demonstrate the use of AI to realize adaptive adjustment and configuration between network resources and diversified services, optimize network structure, resource allocation, function management and service efficiency.
The current network mainly faced several challenges, such as rigid network structure, simple IP bearing, and difficulty in dealing with unknown threats. Based on above challenges, the goal of this PoC project is to realize polymorphic presentation of addressing and routing, and provide feasible design strategy for operators to automatically deploy network according to different types of business and application scenarios. PINet fundamentally meets the business requirement of network intelligence, diversification, personalization, high robustness and high efficiency.

PINet— Polymorphic Intelligent Network (ENI POC #15)

The ETSI MEC Sandbox is an interactive environment that enables edge application developers to learn and experiment with MEC Service APIs from anywhere in the world.  This pioneering tool was launched by the ISG MEC group in January of 2021, complimenting other developer resources such as the ETSI Forge MEC OpenAPI specifications and the MEC Developer Wiki.  With an emulated edge network set in Monaco, the Sandbox originally included implementations of the Radio Network Information Service (MEC012), the Location Service (MEC013), and the WLAN Access Information Service (MEC028).  Recently, a team of experts has introduced additional MEC services and capabilities into the Sandbox, such as the MEC Application and Service Enablement APIs (MEC011), the Application Mobility Service (MEC021), and MEC platforms that are geographically distributed within the MEC Sandbox’s emulated edge network.  This webinar will re-introduce developers to the MEC Sandbox by demonstrating these new capabilities.  Via hands-on examples, experts will show where to find and access the MEC Sandbox, how to create a MEC Application instance, as well as how to advertise and discover a MEC Service.  The experts also be available to take audience questions.

With Release ELEVEN, ETSI OSM takes a new significant step towards standards adoption and increasing interoperability by adding support for standardized VNF and NS package formats (ETSI NFV SOL004 and SOL007).

Another important addition for interoperability is the support for Google Cloud Platform infrastructure, completing the list of three largest public cloud providers, i.e., Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services, and Google Cloud Platform

OSM also keeps alignment with the most recent market needs, and implements the latest technologies for managing cloud-native deployments. Release ELEVEN brings fine-grained operations for Cloud-native Network Functions, and better integration across functions of different nature. This is achieved through enhanced data exchange mechanisms which enable advanced hybrid deployments including Physical, Virtual, and Cloud-native Network Functions

From a Service Assurance perspective, OSM monitoring has been expanded to include metrics collected from Kubernetes clusters in a centralized Grafana dashboard.

OSM Release ELEVEN overview

An increasing number of CSPs are embracing the cloud paradigm for their digital transformation across all major systems: operations support, business support, and telco network. Whether they use private clouds, public clouds, or combinations thereof, making wise use of cloud resources is key for cost- and energy-efficiency, but at the same time poses great challenges.
Between the cloud user and the cloud provider -whether being part of the same organization or not- a significant gap has been traditionally existing: when requesting a cloud service, like a network function or an analytics workload,  the cloud user needs to declare their “intent” about functional and non-functional requirements of the service (e.g. performance, security, or reliability requirements). In turn, the cloud provider needs to decide the specific cloud resource configurations that meet the cloud user’s intent. In other words, the cloud provider needs to translate the user’s intent (“what”) into “how” the service is implemented.
Translation of intent into cloud resource configurations involves understanding both the cloud applications’ workload patterns, the underlying cloud resource configuration patterns, and most importantly, the complex relationship between the two. What is more, the dynamic behavior of applications during runtime, the increasing variety of service goals, and the growing number of possible resource configurations, further complicate the decision-making process. 
In this talk we will show our approach to address these challenges by developing an intent-driven cloud management solution to assist the cloud provider with decision making on cloud computing (CPUs, memory, disk) and cloud infrastructure (CPU frequency, processor cache, memory bandwidth) resources, to meet the cloud performance goal, i.e. the intent.
