Countdown to Compliance: NFPA 652: Fundamentals of Combustible Dust

Presented by

Ron Melucci, P.E.

About this talk

Explosion hazards exist in many industrial processes involving powders and other fine particulate that can form when the dusts become suspended in air. The degree of hazard is affected by many variables such as particle size, moisture content, concentration of dust in the cloud and ignition-source energy. The foremost industry guidance for preventing and mitigating these explosions are the NFPA standards: - NFPA 652: Standard on the Fundamentals of Combustible Dust - NFPA 654 Standard for the Prevention of Fire and Dust Explosions from the Manufacturing, Processing, and Handling of Combustible Particulate Solids This webinar will highlight the requirements and guidelines, including recent changes to NFPA 652 that mandate "Dust Hazard Assessment (DHA)" for all facilities, existing and new. This Webinar will benefit: - Anyone involved with industrial safety, especially involving manufacture, process, blend, conveying, generating, and/or handling of combustible dusts or combustible particulate solids. - Includes industries such as chemical processing and manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, food, plastic, rubber, metals, textiles, wood, paper and agrochemicals. Learning Objectives: * Understanding the key requirements of the applicable NFPA standards * Understanding the Dust Hazard Assessment (DHA) requirements and methodology * Understanding practical risk mitigation/improvements that can be made based on the requirements of NFPA 652. Speaker: Ronald Melucci, P.E. is a Technical Manager in the Fire Protection and Risk Services Division of Engineering Planning and management (EPM), Inc. He is a fire protection engineer with 25 years of consulting experience, has published many technical articles and papers and is a regular speaker on various fire protection and process safety topics.
