Practical solutions for mine tailings and water – part 2

Presented by

Jason Palmer, Director, Surface Tailings & Water Solutions, Outotec

About this talk

This second webinar out of two will discuss what can be done if minor improvements of thickener operations are not enough? Where the current dewatering methods are not meeting the expected future needs what alternatives are there? The transition from thickened tailings to filtered tailings is a big step and there are other options that can transform the way tailings are stored today either increasing the useable volume of the existing tailings storage facility or reducing the amount of tailings that needs to be stored. Jason reviews the options of converting from thickened tailings to paste deposition, segregating high sulphur from benign tails, cemented fill and filtered tailings. Further options look at alternative processing of ore sorting and coarse particle separation and their implications for tailings production
