#PRCN2019:A DIY altmetrics dashboard written in R using data from Pure

Presented by

Tuija Sonkkila, Aalto University, Espoo, Finland

About this talk

Since the Altmetrics Manifesto in 2010, we have seen a number of commercial solutions enter the market that aggregate various metrics and render them either on a native dashboard or embedded in portals and other web sites. The UK-based Altmetric was a pioneer in offering a free API. Lately, Crossref has started to deliver detailed open data on e.g. Twitter and Wikipedia via their Event Data API. Aalto University does not officially make use of altmetrics in decision making. Yet, there is a fair amount of curiosity among academia in whether their publications have gathered interest online, how much, when, and from whom. To fulfill these wishes and to experiment with open APIs we have produced a series of snapshots as interactive web apps built with the R Shiny package. In this presentation I will show some examples and go through the technical process, starting from the initial step of exporting DOIs from Pure.
