Adani Group’s new coal projects: why and how investors need to act

Presented by

Responsible Investor and Responsible Company in partnership with Market Forces

About this talk

How can investors assess greenwashing claims and properly determine whether a company’s transition plans are credible? Earlier this year Adani Group head Gautam Adani claimed the conglomerate would be going from “carbon positive to carbon neutral, and further on to carbon negative”. Despite these claims Adani Group is constructing the controversial Carmichael thermal coal project in Australia and plans more new thermal coal mines. It has flagged a doubling of its coal-fired power capacity and new gas infrastructure. This webinar will look beyond the potential for greenwash and provide the evidence to determine how seriously investors should take Adani’s claims of transition. It will examine how Adani Group funds its operations and discuss whether financiers should be treating the conglomerate as one entity, rather than separate companies. Also get the latest on the status of the Carmichael thermal coal project and gain an understanding of how exposure to the Adani Group risks contributing to this globally significant carbon bomb. Featuring: Tim Buckley, Director Energy Finance Studies, Australia/South Asia at the Institute for Energy Economics and Financial Analysis. Tim has 30 years of financial markets experience, specializing in equity valuation, including as a top-rated analyst and head of research with Citigroup and as co-founder and managing director of Arkx Investment Management, a global cleantech startup.
