  • Water risk across asset classes expert session by VBDO in cooperation with DWS Jun 10 2021 12:00 pm UTC 105 mins
Ambika Jindal, Cate Lamb, Michael Lewis, Piet Klop
To meet the SDGs that directly concern water (SDG 6 and SDG 14) an estimated US $ 670 billion of annual spending is required. But in fact, áll SDGs rely on water. Although water is one of the six systemic risks identified by the World Economic Forum, it is also the risk where the least progress has been made.

In this expert session, VBDO and DWS intend to make real progress on this vital theme. With an outstanding panel of water and investment experts, we will discuss the possible and necessary role of water in global investment.

    Expert speakers:
    • Ambika Jindal (Valuing Water Initiative, Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs seconded by ING Bank)
    • Cate Lamb (Water director CDP and Water Champion for COP26)
    • Michael Lewis (Head of Research ESG, DWS)
    • Piet Klop (Head of Responsible Investment, PGGM)

  • DWS Long View: 10Y return expectations for the Green Decade Recorded: Mar 19 2021 63 mins
Francesco Curto; Toby Dudley-Smith; Dirk Schlueter
Long-term investors face several major challenges. High-risk investments such as equities or corporate bonds have reached levels that significantly limit long-term return potential. Another limiting factor: the low growth potential of many economies. In addition, the growth we have seen since the 1950s has been very much at the expense of natural resources – this path is not sustainable. In this context, we present our new long-term (10Y) return forecasts across asset classes, a basic building block for strategic asset allocation – and for the first time this includes a comparison of ESG and traditional investments. On the equity side, we find moderately higher return potential for ESG investments in most regions. Another key result is the rising importance of Alternative asset classes – in an environment of declining return potential across most asset classes, a narrow asset allocation involving only equities and fixed income becomes ever more challenging.

    Presenters:
_Francesco Curto (Global Head of Research, DWS)
_Toby Dudley-Smith (Head of Passive Sales, UK, Ireland & Channel Islands)
_Dirk Schlueter (Head of Data Science, DWS Research)
  • CROCI Outlook: the journey towards normality? Recorded: Mar 18 2021 57 mins
    Colin McKenzie, Jasdeep Hansra
The pandemic has created a "golden cage" made of fiscal and monetary stimulus during 2020. This is likely to continue be the main theme for this year ahead, as measures to combat the virus persist for longer than expected. Against such a backdrop, the world economy cannot afford another crisis so liquidity should remain high.

We have likened the journey since the financial crisis to Odysseus’ struggle to get home after the Trojan War – it feels like the further pandemic-related stimulus is comparable the enforced captivity Odysseus enjoyed on the paradise island of Calypso, prolonged now the market has got used to floods of liquidity. Just like then, though, questions will soon emerge about the path back to normality. Depressed levels of expected rates of return for equities around the globe might tempt some investors to consider de-risking their portfolios, but are other asset classes any better? How do valuations compare to profitability levels, as well as to past levels?

Please join us for The CROCI Outlook with Colin McKenzie (CROCI) and Jasdeep Hansra (UK Distribution), where we examine the status of value after a decade or more of being out of the limelight, the risk of inflation to equities, and the findings of our fundamental valuation framework on global and regional equities.
  • DWS Trend Talks: Dividends in 2021. Positive surprises ahead? Recorded: Mar 17 2021 48 mins
Stephan Werner, Portfolio Manager for Equity Income and Denise Kissner, Senior Investment Specialist Active Equity
it is clear that the low interest rate environment is likely to last for a few more years and that there will be no alternative, if not risk-free, to stocks for the DWS experts. Many stock indices are trading at record levels despite the pandemic and ongoing lockdown. Predicting the price development for 2021 is difficult and depends on many factors.

Based on the latest news and earnings forecasts from companies around the world, we expect the stock market as a whole to be a volatile year with low single-digit stock market returns. And even if dividend strategies have lagged behind the large US growth stocks in recent years, we are confident, that the bulk of companies around the globe are able to increase their dividend payments in 2021.

Thus, we cordially invite you to join our senior portfolio manager & Head of Materials Stephan Werner and our Senior Product Specialist Equities & LRA, Denise Kissner.

  • DWS Trend Talks: EUR High Yield vs Sustainability Recorded: Feb 26 2021 58 mins
Per Wehrmann, DWS Head of European High Yield, and Polina Sorokina, DWS Investment Specialist Fixed Income
2020 has been by all means a tumultuous rollercoaster year for the European High Yield market! After the Corona crash, unprecedented stimulus and vaccine hopes drove a strong market rebound leading to a significant spread tightening. However, current European High Yield spreads are still above the levels we have seen at the end of 2019. Besides, it is also worth taking a relative view on the Fixed Income market.

Around USD 18 trillion bonds globally are yielding negative. In addition, almost 50% of all bonds worldwide are currently yielding below 1%. Due to the ongoing QE, the “low for longer” seems to stay with us. Thus, European High Yield may offer attractive investment opportunities for return-oriented Fixed Income investors.

In addition, sustainable investments play an increasingly important role for investors. ESG and European High Yield – how does this fit together and how could a potential ESG implementation to European High Yield look like?

Join our BrightTalk Webinar where we will shed light on the above questions and topics with Per Wehrmann, DWS Head of European High Yield, and Polina Sorokina, DWS Investment Specialist Fixed Income:

  • The challenge is still alive: Profitability in Conservative Multi-Asset Recorded: Feb 24 2021 45 mins
Kevin Dunzel and Yannic Hergers from Investment Specialist Multi Asset & ESG
The year 2021 will again be a difficult exercise for conservative investors to obtain positive returns by controlling volatility. Some of the common building blocks used to build conservative portfolios, namely bonds, do often not provide positive expectations for returns in the world of sovereign issues, and in the world of credit, return expectations often do not outweigh risks.

What is DWS doing in its Conservative Multi-Assets to cope with this situation that we expect will last beyond 2023? In 40 minutes and through 2 practical cases, we will try to show you how efficient portfolios have varied by type of investor and what solutions DWS is applying to counteract this effect. What combination of assets, what flexibility and how to balance strategic objectives with tactical positioning.

For this purpose, we have considered modeling two of our most successful conservative proposals in recent years: DWS Invest Conservative Opportunities (Total Return, vol up to 5%) and DWS Invest ESG Multi Asset Defensive / DWS Stiftungsfonds (conservative MA strategy with integration of ESG factors).

They are two differentiated solutions in their investment processes and that in 2020 achieved positive returns, DWS Invest ESG Multi Asset Defensive LD (2020: + 4.1%) and DWS Invest Conservative Opportunities LC (2020: + 7.2%).

For this webinar we will have the participation of Kevin Dunzel and Yannic Hegers, Product Specialist of the Multiactivos team at DWS who will explain their successful investment processes and main differences between them
  • ESG TALKS: WATER RISK AND TRANSFORMATIONAL INVESTMENT Recorded: Feb 11 2021 41 mins
Michael Lewis, Roelfien Kuijpers, Francesco Curto, Mindy Lubber
Please join DWS's ESG TALKS webinar series where Michael Lewis, Head of ESG Thematic Research will discuss current issues impacting responsible and sustainable investing. Michael will be joined by ESG experts externally and from across the DWS platform incorporating all asset classes and business lines.

There are six stages in a transformational investment according to the WEF (Understand, Collaborate, Design, Invest, Transform, Monitor). If our understanding of the risk is now clear, we still face significant challenges to translate the risk in an opportunity because of the ‘fragmented nature’ of water risk. The objective of this webinar is about examining the second stage, ‘collaboration’, and how to ensure that investments in water risk go beyond a risk management approach, but actually make a difference.

    About the participants:
CERES was amongst the first NGOs to highlight water risk and works with some of the biggest companies in the world to improve their water stewardship. In 2020, Mindy Lubber received the ‘Champions of the Earth’ award – the highest environmental honour from the United Nations.
DWS has a 25+ year track record in responsible investing, across all asset classes and regions and is now working with multiple stakeholders to drive a transformational framework for water risk
