How can primary schools take a pedagogical approach to improvement?

Presented by

Peter Fidczuk, IB, Jane Tipple, Principal, Ingrid McCormack, IB

About this talk

New government targets for primary school student attainment have revived the conversation on how we can use pedagogical strategies and teaching methods to improve outcomes for learners. A pedagogical approach is at the core of the International Baccalaureate’s Primary Years Programme (PYP), a student-centric approach to education for children aged four to 11. The inquiry-based, transdisciplinary framework builds conceptual learning and delivers excellent outcomes by providing an education that is engaging, relevant, challenging, and significant. Learn more at our free webinar At 1pm (GMT) on Thursday 16 March, join Education Today and the IB to: • Learn about pedagogy and the PYP • Understand how the programme complements the Ofsted framework • Hear from school leaders sharing their experiences of how implementing the PYP has improved student outcomes. Read more about the Primary Years Programme: https://www.ibo.org/programmes/primary-years-programme/ Speakers: • Jane Tipple, Principal, Bearsted Primary Academy: Jane has delivered both the National Curriculum and the IB PYP in two different academies, which are both authorized IB World Schools and have received successful Ofsted inspections under the new framework. She is passionate about the aspirations, philosophy, and ethos of the IB and its values and the significant impact on learning that the programmes have on all students. • Peter Fidczuk, Development and Recognition Manager, International Baccalaureate UK and Ireland: Peter supports schools interested in developing IB programmes, engages with UK and Irish universities to develop their understanding of the IB and is the point of contact between the IB and the English Department of Education.
