About this talk

Financially motivated data breaches vary widely from breach to breach, ranging from ransomware, Business Email Compromise (BEC), fraud, to monetizing exfiltrated data. Financial data varieties include credentials, payment (PCI), personal (PII), internal, bank, and medical (PHI). Protecting this data can be a challenge; a challenge from a security standpoint, a challenge from a governance and compliance standpoint. The sheer size of an enterprise environment, number of assets, and the amount, formats, and locations of the data top the list of Financial data breach challenges. We queried seven years of DBIR data to better understand Financial data breaches. Specifically, we looked at Financial data breaches for compromised data, threat actors, actor actions, victim assets, and asset attributes to see what the dataset tells us. Key takeaways •Cyber Threat Landscape – Financial data breach insights •VERIS A4 Threat Model and Financial data compromise •Verizon security solutions to protect Financial data and mitigate Financial data breaches
