About this talk

For the 2014-2020 Data Breach Investigations Report (DBIR) timeframe, Manufacturing organizations topped the list of non-government industries at 21% for threat actors with an Espionage motive. Data breaches involving threat actors with an Espionage motive are similar to yet different from data breaches involving threat actors with a Financial motive. In this session, Verizon – producers of the annual DBIR– will compare and contrast Espionage-motived and Financial-motived data breaches. We’ll present this session through the lens of VERIS – Vocabulary for Event Recording and Information Sharing – Framework, to include the A4 Threat Model: Actors, Actions, Attributes, and Assets, and highlight key controls to counter data breaches. Several case studies will also be shared to illustrate how Verizon security solutions can effectively address the challenges from different types of cybersecurity threats.
