  • Better by design? Re-thinking AML in a digital age Recorded: Mar 11 2021 61 mins
Dr Louise Beaumont, Chair, Open Banking and Payments, techUK (moderator)
Rapid and widespread digital adoption by banking customers, and accelerated digitalisation across financial services in response to Covid-19, have expanded the opportunity for fraud, with criminals exploiting gaps between digital solutions, banking systems and customers. Chief among them, money laundering, has grown rapidly as regulation and bank processes fail to keep pace with the rise in criminal innovation.

In fact, Anti-Money Laundering (AML) compliance breaches in the first six months of 2020 outstripped the total for 2019, with fines during that six-month period 40% higher than for the whole of 2019. While fines may be small relative to industry revenues, the damage caused to customer trust and business disruption are considerable and opportunities to leverage operational efficiencies from automated compliance processes are overlooked.

Join Banking Circle and an expert panel who will challenge some traditional assumptions around cleaning up the business of AML:
    • Is complying with regulatory rules enough?
    • Should the responsibility for AML be limited to the compliance team?
    • Which essentials should be part of your AML arsenal for the future?
    • What is the role of AML in the broader context of digital transformation?
    • Can combating digital crime be designed to complement, not conflict with, banking business lines?

    Panellists:
    • Dr Louise Beaumont, Chair, Open Banking and Payments, techUK (moderator)
    • Livia Benisty, Global Head of Business AML, Banking Circle
    • Dave Burns, Chief Revenue Officer, Napier AI

Morgan Davis, (mod.) | Ed Lopez | Paul Przybylski | Alastair Sewell | Doug Spratley
The dynamics of money markets have been widely varied this year, from heavy March outflows to record Q2 inflows. The pandemic is taking its toll and forcing the money markets industry to reshape. Central banks around the world have taken action to confront the challenges their respective economies are facing. At the end of August, the US Federal Reserve indicated that interest rates are going to stay low for some time while the European Central Bank has flooded the euro zone interbank money-market with liquidity.

    • How are these events and actions affect the money markets? Will more funds close or is it simply a case of repositioning?
    • What do investors need to understand about money markets in 2020?
    • Aside from yield, what do investors really want from their money market providers now and in the future?

    Speakers:
Morgan Davis, Bonds editor, Global Capital (moderator)
Ed Lopez, Chief Revenue Officer, Calastone
Paul Przybylski, Global Head of Product Strategy and Global Head of Client Service for Global Liquidity, JPMorgan

  • Managing the 24-hour money market Recorded: Jul 30 2020 49 mins
Morgan Davis, Bonds editor, Global Capital
The money market is rapidly becoming a 24-hour industry. But as it becomes more global, continuous and wide-reaching, is that making it easier or harder to do business?

This webinar from Euromoney and Calastone explores the importance of robust, accountable and informed technology in underpinning the money market, ensuring that people can make the right decisions with the right information and not simply be swamped with data.

At the same time, it asks where we need to ensure oversight exists, so that automation doesn't lead to a lack of accountability or missed opportunities.

    • Changes to the investment landscape and impact on firms and investors
    • How the industry is starting to change – does it need to become more agile to manage market turmoil? Is a true 24-hour money market solution possible?
    • How can real-time visibility help investors manage an increasingly challenging geopolitical and monetary policy environment?
    • What do treasurers really want from MMFs in times of crisis and post-Covid?

‘Together but apart’ might be the motto for the post-Covid-19 era. But what will it mean for business – and the business of banking?

Financial infrastructure provider Banking Circle and Euromoney are hosting a webinar to debate the challenges of this new world, hosted by author, advisor and commentator on digital financial services, David Birch.

We’re bringing together a group of incumbent and challenger banks for a live debate on life after Covid-19 and looking at the role of banking in a ‘digital-most’ economy, making an appraisal of what stands before us as banking looks to emerge stronger in the decade ahead.

    Moderator:
    David Birch, Director, 15Mb

Juan Jimenez Zaballos, Head of Financial Industry Transformation, Santander Digital
    Sibylle Strack, CEO, Kontist
Valentina Kristensen, Director for Growth & Communications, OakNorth

Some of the questions that will be debated include:
●Goliath v David: Will incumbents outperform innovators this time round?
●Re-thinking banking: What does fitness mean for banking in the new world? How do we thrive, not dive, after Covid-19?
●Dynamic environments: Where are the opportunities, and what do they mean for organizational economics?
●Getting close to ‘digit-all’: Who’s being served? With more customers online, who’s being left out and how do we serve them? Do we understand those outside the norm yet?

Well-known technology industry expert and director of 15Mb, David Birch, will be taking questions before and during the panel, and adding his own sharp observations on the bend in the road ahead.
