Earnings diverged between our rated credit unions in Saskatchewan and B.C. in 2024. As expected, asset quality deteriorated in both B.C. and Saskatchewan, although credit metrics in both provinces, particularly B.C., remain relatively solid. The ongoing trade conflict between Canada and the U.S. has introduced significant macroeconomic uncertainty and poses potential material downside risk to credit quality. However, we view the credit unions as being generally well positioned with sound liquidity, stable funding, and strong capital levels.
