About this talk

Whilst 4G could still be afflicted by latency issues, the general feeling is that 5G has what it takes to be a game changer for live contribution. Blending increased reliability with very low latency and the ability to maintain superb video quality, 5G is set to have an especially transformative effect on live sports and news. In particular, it will bring greater simplicity and flexibility to camera signal transportation, which has historically tended to involve com-plex combinations of wired and wireless technologies. As a result, it also holds the promise of reduced production costs. With broader concerns about interference and public service requirements still to be fully resolved to everyone’s satisfaction, there are indications that private 5G networks – in some cases established for specific news events or sports tournaments – could ultimately prove very popular. In this IBC 365 webinar, we will address some of the theoretical and logistical issues surrounding 5G for live contribution, including: - The improvements to live contribution that are being enabled by 5G as opposed to 4G - The enabling potential that it heralds for different aspects and types of live contribution - The main stages of establishing a practical 5G-based live contribution workflow for news and sports applications - The extent to which an ecosystem of tools and solutions that support 5G-based live con-tribution is now taking shape, and whether there are still gaps that have to be addressed - The ways in which 5G could allow the scope of live contribution to be expanded in the future
