RDR and the Legal Services Act

Presented by

Ian Muirhead, Managing Director, SIFA

About this talk

The emergence of fee-based IFAs at a time when solicitors are looking for partners to equip them to meet the challenges presented by the Legal Services Act, presents the opportunity for a marriage of disciplines made in heaven. Ian Muirhead is a solicitor who started his career with a major City law firm and then went into industry as Personnel Director, Company Secretary and Legal Adviser. He subsequently reverted to private practice and established a financial planning department as a partner at TWM Solicitors in Surrey. This led to his being asked by other law firms to assist them to become involved in financial services and in 1992 he set up SIFA with this objective. SIFA now encompasses in its membership solicitor, accountancy and other directly authorised RDR-compliant IFAs who work with the professions, and these firms are promoted to solicitors via the Law Society endorsed SIFA Directory. Ian is the author of a number of publications, including Financial Services for Solicitors (available from Law Society Publications).
