  • Carbon Markets 101 Jan 27 2021 3:00 pm UTC 60 mins
RBC Global Asset Management (UK) Limited
The RBC Global Equity team has woven ESG considerations into its investment process for 14 years. Climate change is an unavoidable issue for everyone and, as such, carbon markets have become increasingly important to businesses and investors. Yet, these markets can be seen as an ambiguous and perplexing method of reducing carbon. The RBC Global Equity team will be joined by the RBC Capital Markets Energy & Commodity team to talk about the ever-changing landscape of carbon markets.
The discussion will comprise an overview of carbon markets and their importance, the current regulatory backdrop, and how organisations can benefit from carbon pricing. The participants will also consider other topics including the various types of carbon offsetting programmes, how those schemes can be used and what neutralising a portfolio might mean for investors.
  • BOOK CLUB. Money: the Unauthorised Biography Dec 15 2020 10:00 am UTC 60 mins
RBC Global Asset Management (UK) Limited
What is money? Is it tangible, or merely an idea? How does it work?
Whilst the conventional answer may tell us that it’s just a medium of exchange - be it money in our pocket, sugar to the West Indian farmer, or tobacco to the Virginian planter - the reality is that it is much more than that. Perhaps by thinking more laterally, we can harness its power to deliver stability, freedom and even a more equitable society.
The RBC Book Club is pleased to welcome Felix Martin, the economist and author of Money: the Unauthorised Biography to will discuss his book and ideas with Dominic Wallington, Head of RBC European Equity. We very much hope that you will be able to join us.

  • The future of emerging markets: City movers - transport & smart cities Recorded: Apr 22 2020 24 mins
Veronique Erb & Dijana Jelic, RBC Global Asset Management (UK) Limited
Discussing the changing vision of smart cities and addressing the reasons for the changes to our projections for electric vehicles and what this will mean for the industry.

The term ‘smart city’ has had different meanings over the years and is a much broader concept than just innovative building projects. The development of information technology has enabled the growth of smart infrastructure, including the use of renewable building materials, electric transport and waste management. Smart cities are far more complex, however, and address the needs of city populations and the challenges they face. Nine out of ten cities in the emerging markets are due to become the world’s largest cities, and because of this rapid urbanisation smart city solutions are vital to improve the quality of life for the inhabitants of these cities and to provide economic growth.
