Pandemic, ESG and Impact

Even before the coronavirus outbreak, more investors were looking at companies through the lens of environmental, social and governance (ESG) practices. But now, corporate decisions on human capital, customers and society during the COVID-19 pandemic will carry greater weight. As companies face greater scrutiny during the crisis, ESG factors will now be a key layer of diligence in evaluating an investment.
Join us for a joint webinar in collaboration with Black Sun, as we discuss ESG in a post-COVID-19 world, and how investors view responsible investment and ESG.
At this event we will discover:
· What ESG information investors are looking for and how they use it
· Understand how high quality ESG disclosure will allow for better comparisons and improved understanding for all stakeholders
· How ESG disclosure should also enhance decision-making and company performance in the long-term

  • Circular economy and sustainable resource consumption Recorded: Jun 8 2021 59 mins
RBC Global Asset Management (UK) Limited & BlueBay Asset Management LLP
A circular economy is a systemic approach to economic development designed to benefit businesses, society, and the environment. In contrast to the 'take-make-waste' linear model, a circular economy is regenerative by design and aims to gradually separate growth from the consumption of finite resources. UN SDG 12 is: ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns. Sustainable resource consumption is about doing more, and better, with less and minimising the use of natural resources. It is also about separating economic growth from environmental degradation, increasing resource efficiency, and promoting sustainable lifestyles.
In this live panel discussion we will be joined by Gerald Naber, Programme Manager of New Plastics Economy at the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, Tytti Kaasinen, Sustainalytics’ Director of Engagement Services, Ben Yeoh, Senior Portfolio Manager for RBC Global Equity and My-Linh Ngo, Head of ESG Investment at BlueBay Asset Management. Our panel will discuss how they look at circular economy and sustainable resource consumption when analysing a company, or engaging with it.

Our Asian Equity team is fortunate to interact with - and invest in - some fantastic companies in the region. These have strong management teams that can take advantage of multi-year structural growth opportunities in a region that boasts a growing and aspirational consumer class. Whilst the region continues to lag other developed markets in terms of ESG awareness and commitments, the team feels that change is being effected and things are moving in the right direction.
The team works hard to ensure the risks - from an ESG perspective - of every investment it makes are researched in a disciplined manner and properly understood as this will help to generate alpha over the longer term.
In this short video Derek Au and David Soh, Portfolio Managers, RBC Asian Equity, will discuss the misconceptions surrounding fraud and accounting risk with a particular focus on Asian equity markets, a topic that is covered in the recently-released RBC Asian Equity Annual ESG Report for 2021.

RBC Global Asset Management (UK) Limited
What is money? Is it tangible, or merely an idea? How does it work?
Whilst the conventional answer may tell us that it’s just a medium of exchange - be it money in our pocket, sugar to the West Indian farmer, or tobacco to the Virginian planter - the reality is that it is much more than that. Perhaps by thinking more laterally, we can harness its power to deliver stability, freedom and even a more equitable society.
