Domestic consumption has always played a big part in our Value strategy as rising income levels and the emergence of a new middle class have created hundreds of millions of consumers in the emerging world.
Laurence discusses a Hong Kong luggage company which is over one hundred years old and hosts a range of both high end and affordable products. Despite its long history, the brand continues to move with the times by investing in new technology and using recycled materials in its products. The stock suffered during the pandemic but as more of the business moves online and economies recover we expect to see the stock to bounce back.

Following centuries of growth, the world’s ageing population may start to shrink before the end of the century. Guest speaker and Chief Economist for Talking Heads Manoj Pradhan, RBC Chief Economist Eric Lascelles and RBC European Equity Product Specialist Freddie Fuller explore the profound societal and economic implications that may result from this demographic shift. They question if demographic change will reverse a multi-decade fall in inflation and interest rates and consider what the future holds for investors and asset classes should rising inflation become a structural trend.

The team has focused on a company that is the second-largest distributor of IT products in India and the largest in the Middle East and Africa. Despite the stock’s cheap valuation we believe it has a bright future.  With a new logistics and services business, and a new software company that helps smaller companies to digitalise, the company operates in a market still untouched by larger competitors.

As we continue to see growing inflows for ESG investors, it might have been a surprise to many that during the COVID-19 pandemic ESG ratings did not appear to provide the risk mitigation benefits investors had hoped for. We explore the possible reasons behind this and how, despite the ESG ratings, active analysis of intangible assets can provide additional benefits to investors.
