To support this, MITRE CTID has developed an open-source repository of mappings connecting security controls and capabilities to adversarial behaviors as described in MITRE ATT&CK. Combining FAIR and Threat-Informed Defense to Evaluate Real-World Threat Exposure

Cybersecurity risk assessments frequently depend on qualitative scoring of controls based on standards like ISO 27001, NIST CSF 2.0, or CIS Controls. While these standards help establish good structure of a cybersecurity program, they fall short in addressing how real-world adversaries operate. They don’t guide prioritization based on actual attack techniques or measure the real effectiveness of defenses. We propose a threat-informed risk assessment framework that integrates threat-informed defense methods to link adversary behavior to mitigation coverage and directly inform the Loss Event Frequency input of the FAIR model.

MITRE’s Applied Cyber Resiliency Engineering (ACRE) methodology is a structured and repeatable implementation of NIST SP 800-160 Vol. 2 Rev. 1, “Developing Cyber-Resilient Systems: A Systems Security Engineering Approach”. ACRE has been designed to be applicable at all stages of the system development lifecycle and to provide documented traceability from an assessment of the system’s mission context to system requirements that support cyber resiliency in that context. MITRE’s Cyber Resiliency Engineering Framework (CREF) Navigator is a web-based tool that allows cyber engineers to easily trace the relationships defined in NIST SP 800-160 Vol. 2 Rev. 1. 

This presentation will provide a high-level overview of the ACRE along with a demonstration of using the CREF Navigator to implement the methodology.

Secure multi-party computation is a cryptographic technology for running a computation on the confidential inputs of two or more parties so that nobody learns the inputs of others. To simplify, it is a kind of a distributed computer that can process data without seeing it. This has applications in protecting sensitive data such as cryptographic keys, personal data or business secrets. The benefit of the technology is greatest when multiple organisation wish to collaborate, but find themselves unable to share the data.
