The meter to cash business process is the tying together of a location, a meter, an installation, a partner, a contract, and the usage or consumption of the utility. The setup of and interrelationship between all these need to be consistent, accurate, and complete for the process to be optimized and perform as designed. Inaccurate data leads to revenue leakage and creates compliance risks. Inconsistent and incomplete data leads to extra work with estimated reads that can follow on into billing errors and can prevent the business from realizing all the benefits of smart metering.
Actively monitoring the data throughout the meter to cash process identifies these “data quality” issues significantly reducing compliance risks, allows the automation associated with smart meters to be realized while removing the manual efforts associated with meter reading because of inconsistent and incomplete data.
ERROR TYPE: Description
* USAGE: Meter reading unit not consistent with rate category
* USAGE, BILLING, AND EXTRA SERVICE WORK: Type of meter inconsistent for rate category, duplicate meters, incorrect manufacturer, incorrect smart meter setup
* BILLING: Connection objects missing a tax jurisdiction coding
* BILLING: Residential addresses with commercial rate categories
* USAGE AND BILLING: Device location status is not installed but the meter is installed
* USAGE AND BILLING: Active account on Deleted Installation
