Peter Thornycroft & Detlef Fuehrer - Engineers of the Wireless CTO group of HPE Aruba.

About this talk

2020 marked an important milestone for Wi-Fi. The FCC in the USA, followed by Ofcom in the UK and other regulators published rules to open up to 1200 MHz of new spectrum for unlicensed use. The IEEE 802.11 working group and Wi-Fi Alliance have been working for some years to support these decisions and modify Wi-Fi standards to allow interoperable operation in the new band. This webinar will explain the current and expected regulatory framework for Wi-Fi in 6 GHz; the evolution of Wi-Fi infrastructure and devices to take advantage of the new spectrum; changes in the standards to optimize the use of this ‘greenfield’ band; and implications for network design and operation. Detlef Fuehrer is a distinguished engineer in the Wireless CTO group of HPE Aruba. He represents HPE in Europe, the Middle East and Africa on regulatory issues and is an expert in regulatory policy and shared spectrum. Peter Thornycroft is a distinguished engineer in the Wireless CTO group of HPE Aruba. He is active in the Wireless Broadband Alliance and other standards bodies, and has interests in wireless technology for enterprise networks.
