After more than a decade of underperformance relative to developed market (DM) peers, the backdrop for investing in emerging markets (EM) appears compelling. Unlike many DMs, EM central banks tightened policy ahead of inflation, providing them room to ease monetary conditions should economic growth soften. While growth estimates across EM economies can show considerable variation between regions, we believe that EMs have the potential to be structurally stronger than in the past and could stand to benefit from a cyclical upswing in corporate capital expenditure. Ernest will share how he is navigating the complex investment environment that emerging market investors are facing, and his approach identifying "forgotten" EM companies with improving fundamentals, attractive valuations, and asymmetrical risk/return profiles.
