  • Don’t know where to start with migrating to the cloud? Here’s one answer. Recorded: Feb 15 2019 3 mins
    Ensono
Do you want the unlimited elastic scale, smart security and intelligence of the cloud but don’t know where to start? Does the cloud feel out of reach because of your legacy infrastructure, servers and storage devices? You could lift and shift everything but that means you don’t get the full benefits of the cloud.

Or you could build from scratch in the cloud but that takes time and costs a lot of money. Another option is re-platforming. It combines the ease of lift-and-shift with the benefits of building directly in the cloud.

Replace all your old hardware built to peak demand and get all the scalable, smart and secure benefits of the cloud. Re-platforming lifts-and-shifts just the app code and user data, leaving behind your outdated OS and physical disk volumes. This allows you to turn up and down your services based on real-time customer demand.

  • Data Centre Design in the Era of Multi-Cloud: IT Transformation Drivers Recorded: Jan 24 2019 38 mins
    Simon Ratcliffe, Principal Consultant, Ensono
IT Transformation projects are usually driven by the need to reduce complexity, improve
agility, simplify systems, contain costs, manage ever-growing data and provide more efficient
operational management. Arguably, for seasoned IT professionals, there is nothing new
about the drivers for transformational change; it’s the velocity and scale of transformation
    today that’s the big challenge.

Today, to effectively accelerate business innovation, successful IT leaders are building
infrastructure that focuses on automation and flexibility, supporting agile application
development and helping deliver world-class customer experience. Of course, IT teams are
still under pressure to deliver legacy, mission-critical applications but they also need to
support a seemingly constant flow of emerging business opportunities. They’re also tasked
to lower costs, reduce Capex, while helping to drive revenue growth. That’s a lot of drivers
and this complex juggling act often requires modernising infrastructure. An almost inevitable
result of this is that the mix of platforms they adopt will include public cloud.

So, does that signal the end of the corporate data centre as we know it? Well, as is so often
the answer – yes and no. ‘Yes’ because there is no doubt that the complexity and cost of
building and managing on-premise infrastructures is becoming increasingly unsustainable for
many businesses. And ‘no’ because business continuity and stability of legacy applications
are still, quite rightly, primary drivers today.
  • Mainframe: Legacy or Transformation Opportunity? Recorded: Dec 4 2018 56 mins
Simon Ratcliffe, CIO Advisor & Mentor, IT Evangelist, Ensono & Cloud Industry Forum
A 2018 survey of Enterprise organisations by Ensono and the Cloud Industry Forum showed that 89% of the 500 participants surveyed indicated that legacy technology within their businesses were preventing or hampering their ability to execute effective digital transformation.

Perhaps the greatest legacy within many organisations is the mainframe estate that brings the challenges of punitive vendor commercials, risks with maintaining on-going skills, lifecycle planning issues and the sheer volume of residual workload that remains within these estates. With increasing pressure to modernise the applications, methodologies and tooling surrounding these legacy environments, the mainframe is often seen as holding businesses back but does this need to be the case?

This webinar will explore different approaches to enabling these legacy systems to be part of the transformational journey rather than a blocker and examine how organisations can re-define the legacy blockers as positive rather than negative attributes.
