Building a Responsive Organization: How to Lead from the Edges

Ever wonder what enables some organizations to take advantage of external disruptions and opportunities while others make do with small, incremental, run-of-the-mill improvements?

We did too. RedThread Research recently completed a study on Responsive Organizations - those set up to quickly adapt. Not surprisingly, people play a big role. Organizations that respect employees and share authority, encourage continuous growth, and build cultures of trust, fare better than their less responsive counterparts.

Join Dani Johnson & Stacia Garr, cofounders of RedThread Research, as they present their findings on Responsive Organizations. Specifically, this discussion will include:

- A model for building responsive organizations
- 4 layers comprising responsive organizations
- Best ideas and examples from our leader roundtables

  • [APAC] From Action Planning to Action Taking: A People Success Approach Jul 7 2020 4:00 am UTC 60 mins
Archana Ramesh, Senior People Science Consultant, Glint
The likelihood of employee feedback fueling organizational success hinges on the actions taken based on that feedback. However, the momentum that is built before the survey is typically lost between telling employees what is going to be done as a result of their feedback and actually addressing issues to make positive, incremental changes. This can lead to higher levels of disengagement. Glint data shows people who don’t believe action will be taken are seven times more likely to report being disengaged compared to those who believe action will be taken.

Rather than perpetuating a broken system, Glint has reimagined action taking on survey feedback for today’s people-centric organizations. As we like to say, let’s move from action planning to action taking. We believe a new approach to acting on survey feedback is needed; one that consists of a set of unified practices, enabled by technology, that make action taking inherently collaborative. In short, we want to move from cumbersome action planning to action taking that is simple, collaborative, and integrated. The process and the technology work together to drive focus, create structure, and develop meaningful habits. Learn how in this webinar.

  • How to Ensure a Successful 360s Program Recorded: Apr 7 2020 43 mins
Mark Straetmans, Sr. People Science Consultant at Glint
Most organizations consider 360-degree feedback a standard part of the talent-management toolbox for developing leaders. According to Forbes, more than 85% of Fortune 500 companies use 360s for leadership development programs.

The 360s process appears simple enough to execute. Yet they often fail to create real change and can leave employees feeling exposed. Traditional 360s are known for their difficult setup process, outdated methodology and technology, dense reports, and siloed development plans. If your people don’t know how to understand and apply their feedback, or if your 360s platform presents barriers to action-taking, then you may have spent time and money implementing a process that doesn’t add value. To ensure success, organizations need a 360s process that is accessible, insightful, and actionable.

While traditional 360s solutions haven’t been able to solve these problems, we believe change is possible.

  • Where Are We in the Great Performance Management Experiment? Recorded: Nov 14 2019 60 mins
Dani Johnson and Stacia Garr, Co-Founders of RedThread Research
We are at least 7 years into the performance management “revolution”, and yet, many (rightfully) have a healthy skepticism about whether the new approaches are any better than the old.

Despite myriad articles and case studies about simplified ratings (or no ratings at all), separate performance and compensation conversations, real-time feedback and the technologies that support it, agile goal-setting, and coaching and development as a part of performance management, most organizations would admit that performance management is still a struggle.

So, the question remains — Where are we in the great PM experiment?

RedThread Research has conducted research, sponsored by Glint, to answer this question. This research study focused on:

    - Getting the employee point of view: what actually helps them perform better?
    - Determining whether getting rid of ratings has illustrated the impact they were expected to have
    - Understanding how organizations are balancing performance enablement and management, not just choosing between the two
    - Finding out how current performance practices impact employees (satisfaction, commitment, and engagement) as well as organizational outcomes (financial performance, innovation)
