Our experts will be taking stock of the year that was 2020, and share their thoughts on key market trends for 2021 and what the year ahead could hold for global markets, economic recovery and government policy.
  • Venture philanthropy with John Stone, founder of The Stone Family Foundation Recorded: Dec 8 2020 56 mins
Clare Anderson, Cazenove Capital and John Stone,The Stone Family Foundation
Traditionally philanthropists have focused on giving away 3-5% of their philanthropic capital each year to help those in need. However many are recognising that grants alone provide insufficient funding to fix the social and environmental challenges the world faces. As a result they are turning to other ways to allocate capital such as venture philanthropy, sustainable and impact investing with the aim of maximising the total impact of their assets.

With a background as a successful entrepreneur John Stone applied his experience, skills and passion to help establish venture philanthropy as a proven model in the water and sanitation sector.

The Stone Family Foundation story is fascinating having gone from a blank sheet of paper to partnering with far larger institutions including the World Bank, UK and US governmental aid departments. The foundation is also behind the first development impact bond in the water and sanitation sector.

Keith Wade, Chief Economist, Schroders and Caspar Rock, CIO, Cazenove Capital
The US presidential election is one of the most closely watched events in the calendar. Political polls currently point to a comfortable win for Joe Biden. However, it is not only who wins the election that matters to investors. There is also uncertainty if the Senate vote result will end in a ‘blue sweep’ or a divided congress. With market volatility predicted from now until the inauguration in January, it is hard to predict how the results will affect the US economy and trade with the wider world.
At our webinar Schroders’ Chief Economist, Keith Wade, will look at how the outcome of the election could cause one of the biggest policy swings in U.S. history. He will discuss the health of the US economic recovery and what a win for either side could do for business, tax, shares and the strength of the dollar.
