How PMCs CIEP Team Leveraged Couchbase for Critical Retail Use Cases

Presented by

Nimitt Desai, Principal Enterprise Architect, PMC Retail

About this talk

For the past three years, PMC’s product development team has been developing a SaaS-based multi-tenant product called CIEP to develop some powerful retail capabilities. The product was developed using cutting-edge technologies and architecture like microservices, serverless, AWS Cloud, asynchronous processing. etc. Couchbase was chosen as a NoSQL database backend due to its excellent out-of-the-box synchronization capabilities to support significant offline scenarios in retail stores. As the team progressed the development, they encountered some use cases where a traditional batch process would have been used; however, based on some of the really interesting features of the Couchbase Eventing Service, PMC decided to leverage it to process these critical use cases ina much easier and more effective manner. This presentation focuses on the details around these use cases and the Eventing Service technical features that helped realize them. The presentation will also cover some of the challenges the team came across while leveraging the Eventing Service, how they were resolved with the help of Couchbase Admin APIs, and share few of the unresolved challenges that will help Couchbase to define future features for the Eventing Service roadmap. The presentation will conclude with some insight into a few more use cases of our future roadmap where the Eventing Service will be extensively leveraged.
